Good golf but poor service and attitude from staff. Alot of waiting on course too.

Played the Monty a couple of weeks ago. Greens and bunkers were in very good condition, with some tricky holes despite the short length. Fairly hilly but quite open and definately merits it's place as Celtic Manor's 3rd course.
Buggies are a good idea, but £30 a go is poor value considering that you still spend a good deal of time walking, as you are only permitted to use the paths at the side of the holes. Drinks are very pricey too - even the halfway house makes your average nightclub prices seem like a bargain.
Would probably return, but not for a round on the Monty.

The Roman Road course is fantastic. The greens are very fast (in line with the Belfry etc) as you would expect from a top class championship course. A good challenge with plenty of punishment for wayward shots, but not impossible for high handicappers to play if you can control your ball a bit.
The one REALLY off putting part of this course... delays! I've played it twice now and slow play is a real issue. Don't expect to be round here in less that 5 hours!

Mixed Opinions
Where to start! We played both the Roman Road and Montgomery courses as a group of 4 over the last few days.Unfortunately they were very wet, expected due to the amount of rain we’ve had this winter. Despite this the greens were in brilliant shape it was the fairways that suffered the most.
All of the staff were friendly and keen to help, especially Roman in the pro shop spot on with all of our questions very intelligent lad so props to him.

Dont book in advance
Slow play - the expected round is 4hr50 , which we still managed to go over!Also its cheaper to book closer the date so you might as well wait until the day before when you know the weather forecast - there were plenty of tee times left on a sunny august day

Very busy course. Wait times extremely prolonged throughout the Roman Road course. Marshal telling ourselves that we were slow and had complaints made when we couldn’t hit shots due to constantly having a group in front was annoying and unjustified. No assessment of the situation was made before accusations were levelled.

Roman Road - Wet and windy
Course was in ok condition, greens were consistent, bunkers were wet, rough was unforgiving, fairway was quite wet under foot in places.(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 102 Handicap: 15.2)

Club house and Driving range closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, I’m sure they could have had the half way but open for a takeaway drink.
