What the club says: Situated close to the M4 near Newport, this nine-holer is a flat parkland layout which is perfect for those who have just taken up the game. At the same time, it's also a place where better players can go for a game if they need to regain their confidence or improve a certain aspect of their game. And, if the problem is very serious, then the club professional is more than willing to lend a hand.

Nice Course

Nice Course but the greens let it down very dry, but it was very quiet on a very hot day. ideal course to learn the basics after not playing for quite a few years

Gold at 9 hole Caerleon

Really enjoy a round at caerleon, the course is well looked after by the green keeper ( Dean ). The greens have not been great but are getting much better, the fairways are in great condition. The bunkers are also getting better since recently being topped up with more sand. This course is well worth a visit for a casual round of golf and is ideal for new starters and accomplished golfers alike.

It looks like it's been abandoned by the celtic manor...Such a shame as as its a lovely course with great staff...

Little Gem

9 hole course with 2 good par 5s. It used to be a municipal course but now owned and operated by the Celtic Manor Resort. A flat walking course and overall represents good value for money.

Great course

Great course for the casual golf player. Greens are in great conditions as are the fairways, for £8 it's a bargain.

Nice municipal

A very nice 9 hole course, pace of play was fine and the fairways were beautifully maintained. The greens were very good for a municipal too, but the range wasn't in use due to damage to their nets and practice facilities are limited. Overall fantastic value at £8 for adults and £4 for kids though and very hospitable and helpful staff too!

Since being taken over by Celtic Manor the course has improved considerably, particularly the greens. Course needs a good couple of dry weeks to completely dry out by which time it should be in good condition.

Being a local I have played the Caerleon course many times , and yes , if you catch her on a wet day you will need a few extra golf balls (I have lost a few in the middle of the fairway at times) , but , having said that , you catch her on a good day , you are in for a reasonable treat , on a good looking , challenging course .. you must remember the course is a municipal one , but not so bad , I think .. the condition is fair to middling .. in places the facilities needs a good refurb .. all told , its a good place to enjoy a sociable , relaxed , knock about , or taking it a bit more seriously .. in both cases , enjoyable (if you catch her dry that is) .. enjoy your sport

This course is quite challenging with a couple of extremely long par 4 holes that only the really big hitters can regularly achieve.
The course retains water so not very good playing conditions after a couple of rainy days. Major work taking place to try to improve the drainage.

There are membership options at this club - contrary to the previous reviewer's assertions. I don't disagree with the other assessments, though. The course is atrocious to play after even the mildest rainfall. It is unplayable for most of the winter (and some recent summers!). Attempts to construct drainage channels appear on recent evidence to have come to nought. It is too low lying, adjacent to the river and below the water table. A great shame as it is a fine course during decent summer weather.

Pay-and-play style course with no membership options. Due to this, playing Caerleon is difficult as ettiquette is not always upheld. The drainage is not the best and it gets difficult to play after (or during) bad weather. The course itself is actually very nice and quite challenging - skinny fairways, long rough and small greens pose quite a challenge.
