We played on Monday 22nd August 2011 as part of a golf society. The staff were great at the clubhouse and very friendly and welcoming. The course was very hilly and i would not fancy walking it (unless i was striving for an all over workout!). The only hole on the course i thought was slightly dull and uninspiring was actually the first, some of the holes-the par 5 3rd hole is just amazing and so rare to see which makes for an interesting round. Tee offs were excellent, fairways nicely cut in and the rough fair but tough in places. The Greens were in lovely condition but they are quick and i mean really quick (practise on a glass surface before you play!) which is my main gripe; the course does have a linksy feel to it as you cannot hit a ball onto some of the greens and get any spin which means it runs off and to try and play chip and runs on some of the holes was nigh on impossible which left you feeling a little well, how do i play it?
The 9th hole has an amazing drinks/food hut which is really welcoming and the layout never feels compact.
All in all i really do believe that Celtic Manor has a great course here and to say its the 3rd doesn't do it justice-dont forget to practise your chipping and putting and if your walking make sure you warm your calves up!!!!

Mixed Opinions
Where to start! We played both the Roman Road and Montgomery courses as a group of 4 over the last few days.Unfortunately they were very wet, expected due to the amount of rain we’ve had this winter. Despite this the greens were in brilliant shape it was the fairways that suffered the most.
All of the staff were friendly and keen to help, especially Roman in the pro shop spot on with all of our questions very intelligent lad so props to him.

Unplayable!
Had been looking forward to a weekend of golf at Celtic Manor for a while. Having driven 3 hours to get there, we were expecting the course to be in okay condition having had no prior warning of poor conditions on arrival we were informed of the adverse weather policy- however, as the course was still open we expected it to be playable and maybe slightly boggy. How wrong were we. The 2010 course was a mud bath. Between the 4 of us we lost about 12 balls in the fairway through 18. Couldn’t distinguish fairways from rough and the grass in the greens was long. For a championship course it was embarrassing. Why couldn’t they inform us before we travelled? As if we were going to drive all th way home again and come back another time! Just shows the resort to be money grabbing and taking little care in the player experience. Extremely disappointed to put it kindly. Same issues followed the next day on the Montgomerie. Absolute joke. Get better conditions at our local pitch and putt.Reviewer Rating

Celtic Manor great as always
Second time on the Montie course 1st time we had a slight delay due to fog, this was was almost 40 degrees c. Course in good condition and a good challenge, would recommend a buggy though as I was walking and there are some very long transitions particularly on the back 9.Reviewer Rating

Luxury all the way through
First off the hotel looks and feels luxurious. Atmosphere in the bar in the night was great. Was worried it was going to be a bit to posh for our group. It wasn’t everything was high end but still felt comfortable being ourselves. So much to do separate from the golf. Had a look at prices to take my family back there as soon as I got home. All kinds for kids to do. We ate at The Grill, food was really nice and price exactly would you would expect to pay in a decent restaurant. Cocktails at £15 was a bit much though. Staff throughout the hotel where fantastic always happy to help. The course, I believe the under sell the Montgomery as it was spectacular and enjoyed it so much more than the Roman Roads. Had to wait a while on the Roman roads for others in front of us (just the way it goes) but the group behind complained to the marshals who had a moan at us even though he could see us waiting for the green to clear.Reviewer Rating

Mr Chris long
A testing course but unfortunately made worse by the fact it took 5 hours to get around, we were only a 2 ball and our golf was ruined because of the waiting around on every hole.Reviewer Rating

Always a pleasure
As always the Celtic Manor didn’t disappoint. From Mike the friendly starter to the the last putt the course was a delight. With a mixture of fantastically positioned bunkers to trick pin positions the course is a real thinking golfers course. I can’t wait to come back again.(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 86 Handicap: 17)
