always a good challenge
Still pretty damp and sticky underfoot, but greens as ever in great condition, although not that fast this time of year. rough only recently cutback as has been so wet which made a big positive differenceReviewer Rating

12 of us went to the Celtic Manor mid February. We stayed at Coldra Court which was excellent. Nice rooms, great food, very welcoming, etc. It's a shame the same can't be said for the golf courses. We played the Roman Road the first day and didn't feel particular welcomed on arrival or at the driving range and the course was in poor condition overall. Yes I know its February and the fairways arent going to be great, but the greens were appallingly slow and inconsistent. The air compressors didn't work outside the changing rooms either.
Overall 4 out of 10.
Fear not we thought, we're playing the hallowed 2010 tomorrow.....
A great night was had by all in the evening at Coldra Court and couldn't fault it. 10 out of 10.
As for the 2010, maybe my expectations were too high.
Again a poor welcome when entering the club house. We had to find our own way around.
The course itself, general unkempt (yes I know its February) but still looks like a lack of care being taken. Genuinely awful greens with many looking like moss and ridiculously slow.
Again could be my expectation but it certainly didn't "feel" special or were our group made to "feel" special. Service in the bar was adequate but no more.
Again air compressors not working to clean all of the mud off.
Overall was super excited to both goto and play at the Celtic Manor and was left disappointed.

Up and down
A trip to Wales to play in February must always be treated with some trepidation. Especially when you are a high handicapper and it's your first round of the year! But the sun shone and despite the course being wet we had a great day. The greens were excellent and Mountgomery midweek winter deal of £23 must currently rank as the best value golf experience in the UK. But it's a tough course. Don't expect to come off smiling, especially if you didn't splash out for a buggy. But we all need the exercise and you will sleep well.Reviewer Rating

Great experience to play this course, challenging very up and down it was very wet, greens I thought were good, and the fairways were very wet. Didn't use a buggy big mistake 7.3 mile total. They have revered 1st and 10th Tees the course so I was off the first but my GPS said it was the 10thReviewer Rating

Celtic Manor great as always
Second time on the Montie course 1st time we had a slight delay due to fog, this was was almost 40 degrees c. Course in good condition and a good challenge, would recommend a buggy though as I was walking and there are some very long transitions particularly on the back 9.Reviewer Rating

Luxury all the way through
First off the hotel looks and feels luxurious. Atmosphere in the bar in the night was great. Was worried it was going to be a bit to posh for our group. It wasn’t everything was high end but still felt comfortable being ourselves. So much to do separate from the golf. Had a look at prices to take my family back there as soon as I got home. All kinds for kids to do. We ate at The Grill, food was really nice and price exactly would you would expect to pay in a decent restaurant. Cocktails at £15 was a bit much though. Staff throughout the hotel where fantastic always happy to help. The course, I believe the under sell the Montgomery as it was spectacular and enjoyed it so much more than the Roman Roads. Had to wait a while on the Roman roads for others in front of us (just the way it goes) but the group behind complained to the marshals who had a moan at us even though he could see us waiting for the green to clear.Reviewer Rating
