A little dissappointing

Nearly all the fairways appeared to have been scarified with the scarified grass left on the surface. Several of the bunkers had stones in them with sand of poor quality. Big problem on four holes was the inability to see where the green was leading to the ball being either out of position or hit in the wrong direction. We were 15 minutes late teeing off as we had to wait for a mixed fourball medal match which inexplicably started (all groups) on the 17th tee. The group in front of the group in front of us were so slow we were held up on all holes up to12 and only speeded up then because the group in front of us walked off in exasperation (They told us later). We were then unable to have sandwiches unless we waited for 45 minutes as they were catering for a society so we left.

I thought this course is a course of 2 very different halves which is clearly split by the 200 yard walk after the 4th and before the 15th. Although visually stunning the 1st and 4th holes are bordering on the ridiculous. The 4th requires a carry of 160 yards as there is no option for higher handicap or older golfers to lay up - this can make the hole unplayable for some. The holes between the 4th and 15th are very pleasant and give a good challenge to golfers of all standards. Once back on the "other" part of the course the 16th is a ridiculous hole as despite being a short dogleg par 4 you need to hit the ball in a 20 yard corridoor or you can be sat in the centre of the fairway with no shot to a green 80 yards away due to very tall trees.

The 17th again requires a carry of 160 yards and has no option of a lay up. The day we played there was a strong head wind meaning that the yardage was effectively 200 yards to clear the water- this is not possible for all golfers.

I think this course would get better if you played it a few times or played with a member but for 2 visitors of 14 and 13 handicap we felt that the course bordered on the "unfair" rather than challenging at times.

One final gripe!! The greens were very slow and the coring had not healed properly - thought this was poor for mid September.

Must like water and dog legs

Brampton Park is sometimes called a plotter’s course. My view is one-dimensional. Tree lined dog legs 12 of 14 non par three holes means that in most cases the only way to play the hole is hit to a distance then hit to another. Add in ditches and water and it’s like playing from island to island. Just make sure you can hit a high ball to stop it on the greens and don’t dare to embrace the ground game.

Very difficult holes here, some where you need to be very good to ensure you can proceed, 1st, 3rd and I think 14. They are card destroyers...... Greens excellent and course held up very well on a very wet day.

Tight parkland course with a wide variety of holes. Definitely a course where the driver is better off in the bag. I liked it a lot and would definitely return for another go. When you are not negotiating the tight tree lined holes, you are avoiding the numerous bunkers. Pretty dry and hard ground, which isn't surprising given the recent hot spell but much of the water hazards are stagnant and I suspect that the course is a different beast in the wet winter months. Greens were good and firm with subtle breaks for challenging putting. Good clubhouse, with a basic selection of lunchtime bar snacks and sandwiches and a decent locker room.

Played with existing member and paid only £16.00 and the course was in very good condition for that time of year. However I wanted to play it with a friend midweek using a 2 fore 1 voucher and was informed the price was £18.50 each when a round for 1 person midweek was £27.00. To me that IS NOT 2 fore 1!!!!!!!!! Very naughty and put me off the club.

Very nice course - definitely worth a visit

A difficult course, quite a few doglegs, lots of water hazards, not an easy course to play. An interesting challenge. Greens running true but slow on day visited.

Interesting Course in Good Condition

First time playing this lovely golf course, a bit more expensive than others in the area but well worth it. Lots of dog legs, water hazards and trees and course was in good condition. Greens were a little slow but had recently been worked on so to be expected. Staff and members were friendly. Driving range, chipping area and putting green. All in all recommended.
