Keeps getting better

I play here a couple of times per year on average and it keeps getting better. The fairways were quite hard and running which was good, but the greens were a little too hard for my liking, but we had just had a number of days of 30c+ temperatures, having said that they were extremely true to putt on and pretty darn quick.

The course is well laid out and fairly easy to negotiate and there is a good variety of holes in the 18. Each time I play it there are a couple of holes that beat me up, but as they are never the same holes it must be me and not the course.

The clubhouse is nice and very friendly and there are good practise areas and a lovely patio to spread out on. Quite a good pro-shop as well and everyone seemed very friendly.

It seems that more drainage has been put in on a couple of holes which suffered in winter so that should sort out any water issues.

Very appealing course to play and it is a good test of golf, but won't eat all your golf balls up.

Greens are in good nick but the Tee's are poor. Wide fairways with some interesting holes where you can get caught out.

Played at Aylesbury Vale in an Inter-club match yesterday and although we lost, the course was the real winner.

The greens were really very good and the fairways likewise apart from 1 small patch on one where ther was still rain water but that was all. Quite a lot of the bunkers were GUR as the recent heavy rain was lying in many.

The staff were really pleasant and accomodating.

The discounted rates for seniors is a great deal for me. The people in the club shop are always friendly as are the staff in the bar. Food and drink prices are very reasonable. The course, which is currently in immaculate condition, is well laid out with some challenging holes, particularly the long par 4 13th over the pond which does a successful job of defending the hole. The course is in a peaceful location in open countryside which means there is little or no surrounding noise.

Lovely course, great condition, some challenging greens and friendly members. Quite long, but wide fairways give you confidence to try and go long off the tee's. Will be back.

The course is interesting with some long and short holes. The greens are recovering from some work but they still roll fairly well. The fairways have a few bare spots, whereas the semi is very lush grass. The full green fee is a little expensive, but the twilight rate is a good deal and the course was quiet the day I played.

Quite a lot of work being done to improve the course, including many new tees, which are not yet finished, paths which are and tree trimming which shows as being new as there are few leaves at this time of year.

Played in early April, which is probably too early in the year to be too critical. Greens were reasonably quick and rolling quite true. Bunkers were well maintained and with good soft sand that you could get a club through (I know because I had occasion to use them). Fairways seemed reasonable, but difficult to see where they ended for "preferred lies" - very short rough at this time, so with the course still reasonably open, easy to score well.

Great conditioN for time of year

Aylesbury Vale GC is really in great condition, even after some periods of heavy rain the course is holding up very well and in better condition than other local courses.

Lovely Fairways and faster greens than most

I was pleasantly surprised by this course - my first time here and the first thing that got my attention were the grass range facilities. Very few clubs offer grass facilities anymore. Teeing off the fairways were cut in a crisscross fashion and were lovely to play off of. The greens were quicker than most courses I've played this season and the pin positions were challenging too!

The layout is great IMO, a challenging course all around, a 200 yd Par-3 will test your, uhm, balls, and a right-angle, dog-legged Par-4 certainly challenged me in terms of club choice (as well as a stiff 30km gust throughout)

Will definitely return soon!

O.K.

Played here July , 2020 .

Reasonable parkland course but i probably wouldn't be that enthused about playing it again .

Gently undulating in a tranquil setting .Quite wide off the tee with plenty of room & i hadn't played here before but shot just under my handicap so , with the four par fives here as well , i would say you could score well round here .

It was well presented with fairways good to play off & nice condition putting surfaces .

I thought the par threes were underwhelming .

The shortcomings were that i didn't think the greens had been designed that well & the bunkering felt sporadic .The green complexes had a slightly basic feel to them with some of them a bit raised up & with an upturned saucer feel to them & some with just a slope across the whole green & lacking in contouring .The first green was massive but when you stepped onto the par three second tee there was a smallish green in an open area that didn't seem to bear any resemblance to the style of the first green .
The bunkering felt a bit hit & miss .Some holes had no bunkering & some would have just one bunker & nothing else with no consistent theme of bunker placement throughout the course .

So , overall probably worth playing if you haven't played it before as it was well presented with good condition greens but also with some design issues .

Course needs a prolonged period of rain, ground still very hard after the hot summer.
Greens are recovering from scarifying and top dressing, it may take a while for them to return to what they used to be like.
