The greens were quick despite the rain - would love to play this in better weather conditions. Greens were very undulating, and one or two were quite difficult to read.
Fairways were in good condition, although a number are along the bottom of valleys, so water was gathering in the low points on the day we played.
The 2 bunkers I visited seemed to be well maintained with plenty of sand.
Views of various holes around the course were very pretty, and I would have been taking pictures but for the rain. Didn't see any of the apparently famous deer, but maybe they had more sense than to venture out in the rain!
I was told the food would be good, and again I was not disappointed. It was so good in fact, that our golfing party of 48 was boosted by another 10 who came purely for the lunch.
I am looking forward to playing this course again. The only downside for me was the cost of £77 (reduced because of the numbers we provided - it's normally £86 for the package we had) for coffee and bacon roll, round of golf and 3 course carvery lunch.

The clubhouse is a centre piece of the club and they provide some excellent value for money with regard to food, drink etc.

The course benefits from a number of interesting holes and provides a variety of challenges - from the uphill par 5 13th, which is reachable in 2 for the bigger hitters, to the 207-yd par 3 6th with a hidden swale in front of the green. The greens are generally in excellent condition and are trickier than you might think, with many of them have run-offs to the side or back. The 17th green, in particular, is a real challenge and always difficult to get close to the pin.
The clubhouse was only opened in 2003 is smart, modern and offers great views over the 1st, 9th, 12th, 13th and 18th holes from the large balcony.
In all, this is a great place to play golf, especially in May when the flora around the course is in full bloom.

Great course and clubhouse
Ashridge is fun as a few of the holes have banks both sides. It has short par fives that are reachable and some interesting and challenging slopes. The clubhouse is superb.Reviewer Rating

Superb course
Due to Covid, we played a lot later in the year, as we would normally play in April, when the club generally still has preferred lies (Winter Rules), as spring arrives a few weeks later at the course level of roughly 500 feet than it does in surrounding areas. We play as a Pension Club Society run by an Ashridge Golf Club member, and are always made to feel very welcome. The food is so renowned that many of our none golfing Pension Club colleagues join the golfers for a superb 3 course lunch. I think this year we had 36 golfers and at least a dozen more guests for the lunch alone. Even though Covid means the club is still not back to the carvery which normally goes down so well; the lunch chosen for us by the organiser was so good, all who attended enjoyed the meal immensely. Because we were playing in September, the cost of our ?package? was ?108 (it's usually around ?85 in April). The deal we had included bacon roll and tea/coffee, round of golf, 3 course lunch + tea/coffee and a small array of prizes. I consider this quite expensive, but overall, I enjoy the course and company so much that the price is acceptable.
Looking at the course, the greens were very quick (probably the quickest I have played this year), and were in pristine condition. The tees were also perfect, and there were enough tees per hole to notice that we don't always play holes from the same place each year. Fairways were like carpets, although there was work being carried out to 2 of them, which meant there was a huge amount of sand covering a couple of large swathes, which it was impossible to avoid, and preferred lies was NOT part of the conditions! I also visited just one (fairway) bunker, which was a small pot bunker, so took my medicine, and played out with a sand wedge leaving a long shot to the 18th green. The bunkers themselves were well kept and with plenty of sand.
Whilst there was rather a lot of evidence of the many deer which roam the course, they themselves were not evident, and some ongoing forestry work meant the course was not as quiet as it normally is. The chainsaw noise was NOT however enough to detract from an otherwise brilliant day.
I have no hesitation in recommending the course, and would play again in a heartbeat.
