Fantastic morning at Ashridge. Not the most challenging course, with wide fairways and little water, but in immaculate condition, and with true greens. Staff and members amongst the most friendly I have come across recently.

Good - but irritatingly old school

It's a good course which is encouraging to high handicappers like me as it has 5 par five holes, all shorter than 500 yds and 5 easily reachable short holes. It's in fantastic condition with some tough bunkers and fast greens. Clubhouse and practice facilities really are first class.

A few (non-playing) niggles, though. No County Card discount (which all other clubs in the area offer). The starter warning us not to go on the putting green even though it was five minutes before our tee time; "if you don't go to the tee now I'll let someone else on in front of you" (why are golf club starters so miserable?). Victorian rules about tucking your shirt in and not wearing caps in the spike bar (really? this is the 21st century, you know)

Played here on a society day and we played 36 holes. Very good value for money, and bar / food services was very good. Best greens I have played on for long while, and considering all the snow and rain we have had later they were pretty quick. Would recommend it for a round of golf, and would like to go back during the summer months to experience the course at its best.

Superb course, and I have heard a lot of good things about how helpful they have always been. I only get to play this as my employers Pension Club play their golf day here each year. There was talk of moving it because they increased the cost in 2017, and this may well happen in future, which would be a pity, but I get the impression the club itself don't need the income, so we will have to see.

As usual the course was well looked after, and playing nicely. Weirdly, they keep Winter Rules (preferred lies) for a month later than most courses, because of the elevation of the course, but generally, a good weather day means there really is little need for cleaning and placing the ball.

Greens, bunkers, tees and fairways all in good order, and the local deer had not been messing up the course as can happen occasionally. Nice to be back, and hope to play again in 2018.

The food is so good, that our Pensioners Club regularly has 15 more for the lunch than those of us who come to play golf.

One of those courses I only get to play once a year and really look forward to. Very well laid out and manageable slopes for us seniors. Greens were very quick and it's easy to get in the wrong places to keep it down to 2 putts! Only visited one bunker but the sand was perfect consistency. Food is so good that our party of around 40 golfers is usually topped up with around 20 diners who only come along for the culinary experience.

This is a lovely course in a wonderful setting. Conditioned perfectly. Slightly more open off the tee than I expected, but the greens are truly testing. There are deer everywhere. If your putter is working, you should be able to post a decent score. If it isn't, expect tears. My 4 ball had 14 putts between us on the 11th green!

My first time at this course, and many friends raved about the course and the facilities. The course did not disappoint, although the weather was poor on the day, and there was a lot of standing water.

The greens were quick despite the rain - would love to play this in better weather conditions. Greens were very undulating, and one or two were quite difficult to read.

Fairways were in good condition, although a number are along the bottom of valleys, so water was gathering in the low points on the day we played.

The 2 bunkers I visited seemed to be well maintained with plenty of sand.

Views of various holes around the course were very pretty, and I would have been taking pictures but for the rain. Didn't see any of the apparently famous deer, but maybe they had more sense than to venture out in the rain!

I was told the food would be good, and again I was not disappointed. It was so good in fact, that our golfing party of 48 was boosted by another 10 who came purely for the lunch.

I am looking forward to playing this course again. The only downside for me was the cost of £77 (reduced because of the numbers we provided - it's normally £86 for the package we had) for coffee and bacon roll, round of golf and 3 course carvery lunch.

Second time I've played this course on a corporate day and was really happy to be back. Its a very attractive course, with various level changes, treelined holes and a number of tricky two level greens. Its quite inviting off the tee with wide fairways and thin rough areas so good for higher handicappers wanting to enjoy a good course. Only a couple of negatives - very poor quality range balls which really need replacing and the hire trollies were very old and also in need of replacement. I would have preferred additional distance markers but no big issue.

Ashridge is a lovely parkland course in a terrific setting. Having only played there with a member, I am not sure how easy it is to get on to play as a visitor.
The course benefits from a number of interesting holes and provides a variety of challenges - from the uphill par 5 13th, which is reachable in 2 for the bigger hitters, to the 207-yd par 3 6th with a hidden swale in front of the green. The greens are generally in excellent condition and are trickier than you might think, with many of them have run-offs to the side or back. The 17th green, in particular, is a real challenge and always difficult to get close to the pin.
The clubhouse was only opened in 2003 is smart, modern and offers great views over the 1st, 9th, 12th, 13th and 18th holes from the large balcony.
In all, this is a great place to play golf, especially in May when the flora around the course is in full bloom.

First time round here. Course was in as good a condition as you could expect given the terrible winter to date. Only exception were the couple of bunkers I found, which could have done with a touch more sand as what was in there was very compacted. Otherwise excellent including the greens which both rolled well and allowed some stop from irons in. Clubhouse is impressive without being pretentious and everyone we met at the club was pleasant to deal with. Definitely worth the £85 winter green fee. Will head back in the summer when I hope it will be immaculate.

Great course with friendly welcome

My wife and I visited Ashridge this week and it was worth the visit. The clubhouse is excellent, views of the golf course from the veranda are lovely and we were made welcome by the staff in the bar as well as the pro shop. There is a driving range and a decent chipping area to warm up before heading down to the practice putting green just by the 1st tee.
The first hole is a simple one with the ball feeding down from either side into the middle of the fairway and leaves a short iron approach. There were plenty of holes where it feels like you don't need to hit driver. The greens rolled true and at a decent speed. It felt like there was a lot of room from most tee shots and we were told that the rough was down currently and that helped.
Overall impressions were, a short golf course that could be attacked on a good day with excellent greens and overall course conditions. We are looking at whether they have any opens as it was an enjoyable course to play.
