Slightly disappointed

Course was not in best of conditions, greens were fair but very fast, plenty of bare patches, areas around greens were kept to decent standard, bunkers, some were fine, others hard as rock, fairways pick and place which was good as they looked like a Sunday League football pitch, trees unforgiving (which I sort of expect) but needed cutting so as at least you could get a stance, all in all I was a bit disappointed, fortunately I hadn't paid as it was a freebie but if I had I would have come away feeling hard done by.

We stayed as residents in their hotel section rather than the lodges. The rooms were small but well appointed and just fine for a weekend away playing golf. The lunch menu was great, the usual suspects such as burgers, excellent portions and I can highly recommend the whitebait. The course layout is good, with 3 nines presenting different challenges. I found the Lakeland a tough layout, particularly in the high winds we experienced. The Parkland is similar but the Woodland has s very different feel, set away from the rest of the course it winds its way through what's best described as what appears to be the gardens of a country manor. We really found it the prettiest of the nines and by far the most quiet, I highly recommend you play the Woodland if you can. Sadly the condition of the course did not match the layout. I will concede that the extreme weather we've had recently (very high temps and drought followed by high rainfall) has had an effect but I've not seen such damage at other course. The fairways had little to define them from rough with grass patchy, long and bare earth in areas visible. The greens had also suffered with large areas of dead grass over them. I also wish to mention that the bunkers are currently unplayable, little sand and whats there is has been compacted very firmly. I'm sure the course is spectacular in good condition but currently I don't think anything over ?25 per round represents good value. We also found the evening meals to be disappointing. After reading the website we were very enthusiastic about what awaited us but found the quality to be nowhere near what was advertised. Some very plain food along the meat and 2 veg line. I will add that the staff were universally excellent, all very welcoming and friendly and a credit to their employer.
If you're heart is set on DGCC my advice is to wait until the course has recovered and eat out of an evening.

The course was not in it's best

Not as well manicured as I've seen it. The greens where in very good condition but very tricky some of the bunkers could go with a bit more sand overall the course could do with a little more TLC.

I'm afraid this was a very BORING experience. Of the 50+ clubs I've played, this was the most immemorable of them all by far. The following day I couldn't really recall a single hole.
It was made worse by having to endure this for five and a half hours behind a very slow competition.
Before I went I was advised by someone who knew the couse not to go .. I wish I'd listened.

Stayed here for a three day golf break and played all three courses. I found all of them very challenging, particularly the Lakeland course. Miss the fairways and you will be lucky to find your ball as the rough is exceedingly long in places. High and medium handicappers should note that there are a few holes where you need to carry at least 130 yards off the tee to stay in play.

Nice course

The woodland course, although shorter, is more challenging because of the trees. There is always trouble lurking there.

Overall course in good condition. However, following heavy rains all the bunkers were full of water, up to a foot deep, making them unplayable. As it was a weekend no attempt was made to drain them.

Good society hosts

Played as part of a society - very accomodating, on site accomodation always a welcome addition. Course was good, food and drink very reasonably priced.

good course

Not a bad course to visit as you can to any 2 of the nine hole courses which changes things up a bit. The fairways were a bit scruffy, but other than that ok.
