Justin Thomas is Back to Form With New FootJoy HyperFlex Shoes

Returning to winning form in thrilling fashion at Harbour Town, Justin Thomas secured his first PGA Tour victory in almost three years at the RBC Heritage, and part of his resurgent success has been attributed to a key change of footwear.

Having long favoured traditional shoes, the two-time major champion switched to the new FootJoy HyperFlex to help improve his performance on the course.

Believing that a golf swing starts from the ground up, Thomas explains why he recently made that leap.

"I’ve worn a classic shoe for pretty much my entire career - Classics, Icon, Premiere, etc. - but I had to make a switch when I tried this HyperFlex,” said Thomas. "This shoe is perfect - super comfortable and flexible in the right areas, but also gives me all the support I need to make a strong, confident move on the ball.

"We spend our whole career on our feet and it is something in the past that I didn’t pay enough attention to but glad that I did this past off-season as it could be very beneficial in the long run."

But what convinced him to make this change? When carefully analysing his game with performance coach Kolby Tullier, Thomas discovered that improved ground interaction would facilitate faster clubhead speeds, which can be supported by the HyperFlex.

Concluding the difference that these shoes have made to his game - now validated by his triumph in a signature event - Thomas joked: "Selfishly I hope my peers don't get into it. I don't really want to hell the guys I'm competing against how much this shoe has helped me."
