What The World's Top Golfers Want For Christmas

By: | Mon 18 Dec 2023

Just like the rest of us, the world’s top golfers have written their letter to Father Christmas. Here is what we think they will be asking for.

Tiger Woods

A clean bill of health. And boy does he deserve it. He has been under the surgeon’s knife so many times that he has probably been awarded a loyalty card by now. It would be something special to see the 15-time major champion get through tournaments without hobbling, wincing, feeling his back and/or withdrawing. It would be even better to see him in contention again...

Rory McIlroy

A guarantee that he will win The Masters. What would we all give to see Rory get that monkey off his back at Augusta in April? It is a golf course that is made for him. But he needs to find a way to heal the scar tissue and slay the demons that must surely haunt him every time he arrives here.

Tyrrell Hatton

An anger management course. There are some who think his temper tantrums are acceptable. There are many others who believe his behaviour is both boorish and unacceptable. His language most certainly is.

Jon Rahm

Spanish language book. We are growing tired of hearing him curse and swear in English, so perhaps he needs to be reminded how to do it in his mother tongue - and offend far fewer people.

Paul McGinley

An NBC contract. The best golf analyst on the planet stepped into Paul Azinger’s shoes at the Hero World Challenge. Unsurprisingly, he produced a flawless performance. If ever anybody deserved a long-term contract it is the Irishman.

Luke Donald

The news that Zach Johnson is also being given a second stint as a Ryder Cup captain. Johnson may have had a storied career but he was utterly hapless at Marco Simone and you can be absolutely certain that Donald would love to pit his wits against him again.

Tommy Fleetwood

A book entitled “How to win a tournament on the PGA Tour”. He is becoming the nearly man and it must be driving him to the edge of distraction. He came within a whisker of winning the Canadian, only to be denied in a playoff. There would be no more popular winner.

Jordan Spieth

A copy of the Simon and Garfunkel classic The Sound of Silence. Nobody can talk quite like Jordan, and his elevation to the PGA Tour’s policy board means we are going to be hearing a lot more of him.

Bryson DeChambeau

Concise English Dictionary that helps him deliver sentences in a language that we can all understand. At the moment he speaks a language that nobody can decipher.

Jay Monahan

Wants to waken up on Christmas Day and find that everything has just been a bad dream and that Santa has put a neatly-worded peace deal in his stocking.

Will Zalatoris

A guarantee that his back problems are in the past and that he can continue to deliver on his undoubted promise.

Marco Penge

A DP World Tour venue without any rough. This man hits the ball 340 yards. A course without rough, trees or water hazards would be one where he could shoot 54. Every day of the week.

Tom McKibbin

A guarantee that every time he is interviewed he is not reminded that he learnt to play the game on the same Holywood Golf Club course as Rory McIlroy. WE KNOW. HE KNOWS! Enough already.

Charley Hull

A major. Any major. Hull seems to have been around forever but, remarkably, she is still only 27. She is a fabulously gifted golfer who has come close several times. You get the impression that if she could win one major then many more would follow.

Eddie Pepperell

A win. Any win. Eddie's social media posts are in a class of their own. He is a very funny man and has many admirers. And we would all love to hear his thoughts after returning to the winners’ circle. Please make it happen.
