How Bryson DeChambeau Was Set on Course For 58 After Visit to Scottsdale Golf

Bryson DeChambeau’s thrilling winning LIV Golf performance at The Greenbrier didn’t just happen overnight.

The American star has been meticulously working on his game, body, and equipment in recent months - a journey that culminated in a final round of 58 that ranks among the lowest shot in the history of golf.

Reflecting on what he called the “greatest moment of my career”, DeChambeau said: “I’ve been working so hard for a long time, and I knew something special was going to come at some point. I just didn’t know when.”

A tie fourth place in May’s US PGA Championship at Oak Hill was perhaps the first genuine sign that the former US Open champion was heading back to something like his best, but a crucial stop on that path to glory came at Scottsdale Golf’s Fit.Build.Play Performance Centre in Warrington.

During a spell on these shores that included LIV Golf’s event at Centurion Club and The 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, the 29-year-old contacted Scottsdale in order to have his clubs carefully checked by experts based at the state-of-the-art facility.

Indeed, always keen to benefit from the latest technology and innovations, DeChambeau sought to have his shafts spine aligned using Scottsdale’s SST Puring system, which is a service that few custom fitting specialists offer and one that you won’t even see available on the manufacturing trucks that follow the various tours around the world.

Working alongside the resident professionals at Scottsdale, DeChambeau went through each club in his bag, studying the numbers and analysing the results to have his equipment dialled in to ensure that he performed at his optimum level.

Spin rates, ball speed, flight patterns and windows were all studied to ensure that Bryson had the utmost confidence in his complete bag ahead of his next tournament, which coincidently was LIV Golf Greenbrier that he won in the most emphatic fashion after rounds of 68, 61 and 58 - the latter capped off with a 40-foot putt and celebratory leap that became a true ‘moment’ that transcended across the world of golf.

During his time at Scottsdale, lofts and lie angles of DeChambeau’s clubs were adjusted exactly to his liking and each shaft went through the aforementioned SST Puring system.
