What You Need to Know About Mini Drivers
If you have been paying attention to the golf equipment market, you may have noticed that mini drivers have started to become more common, but what exactly are these clubs and why are they now an increasingly popular option for golfers to include in their bag?
Golfshake's Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall explains the benefits and how a mini driver could help you and where it may fit within your bag with some on-course testing and in-depth data analysis in which he compares two of the leading models (TaylorMade's R7 Quad and Callaway's Elyte) to give you a full picture of what these are about.

What is a Mini Driver?
Effectively these have been created to bridge the gap between your woods and driver. When you consider that modern drivers boast a head size of 460cc, mini drivers are sized between 280cc to 340cc. They also have a shorter shaft than a standard driver.
The concept has existed to some degree since the 1970s but it was TaylorMade who launched the current boom when they released the SLDR mini driver in 2014.
Providing significant distance but with enhanced levels of control, golfers who value greater accuracy off the tee (and perhaps struggle with their regular driver) may favour giving a mini driver a go.
The question you might have is whether they really offer benefits over a 3-wood. That's another topic that Ryan explores in the video.
TaylorMade R7 Quad vs Callaway Elyte
TaylorMade's R7 Quad Mini Driver incorporates Movable Weight Technology to offer exceptional adjustability, meaning that golfers can refine spin, distance, trajectory and shot shape with precise CG placement. The addition of a satin Infinity Carbon Crown means that weight is not only saved but also relocated to other parts of the head for greater efficiency.
Callaway's Elyte Mini Driver is a compact extension to the range and benefits from all the engineering and technology that is showcased within the popular Elyte Driver.
Watch on to see what Ryan made of these mini drivers and how they both compared to his current driver and 3-wood to discover whether they are potentially worth adding to your golf bag.
