PING Winter Apparel Review - Norse S2 Zoned Jacket & Vision Winter Trousers

REVIEW: PING Winter Apparel

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 27 Oct 2020

Winter golf is officially here, making limited daylight and challenging weather conditions a theme of the season, but there is much joy to be had at this time of year providing you have appropriate clothing to wear on the course.

During a visit to the spectacular Kingsbarns Golf Links in Fife, Golfshake's Ryan Rastall, the Head Pro at Howley Hall Golf Club, made sure he was ready to face the autumnal elements of Scotland's East Coast by wearing the latest apparel from PING, including the Norse S2 Zoned Jacket and Vision Winter Trouser.

The Norse S2 Zoned Jacket features PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology. Initially developed by NASA, PrimaLoft microfibres are fused with aerogel to deliver lightweight warmth.

Additionally, the Vision Winter Trouser is engineered for lightweight comfort and protection in cold and wet weather. Utilising Thermolite All Season technology, hollow fibres provide insulation on colder days, while transporting moisture away from the body. Boasting a water-resistant finish and Tekfit waistband technology, allowing up to two inches of movement, this is designed to be worn whatever the weather.

In the below video, Ryan describes the products, what he made of wearing them on the course, and determines whether they should be on your list to consider purchasing this winter.

Ryan says: "It is always great to be sent products to test, particularly when they are industry leading companies like PING that want you to review their latest clothing lines. On a recent trip to St Andrews, I got to try two products from the new Autumn/Winter range in the exact conditions they were designed for. On a blustery, cold but sunny day at Kingsbarns Golf Links, the Norse s2 Zoned Jacket and Vision thermal winter trousers were put through their paces. I was excited to try the new collection as the original Norse jacket from last season is one of my ‘go to’ pieces of clothing for this time of year. One of the things I really love about PING is that the logo on each garment is very subtle and doesn’t automatically scream golf when you see the garments. We are very much in an era when golf clothing needs to be able to double up as fashion/off-course pieces."

Looks

"I think the colour and styling of the Norse jacket is fantastic. The two different shades of blue really compliment each other and the PrimaLoft panelling also adds to the premium look of the product. The Vision thermal trousers offer a classic look with a modern ultra slim fit."

Feel

"The Norse jacket was fitted without feeling restrictive. As a pretty bug guy, I always struggle to find clothing that is wide enough in the shoulders but not baggy in the body. This garment is really good in that respect. I found the Vision trousers a little slim fitting which may be down to the thermal lining of the garment and I would recommend that you try these on before buying them."

Performance

"I thought that the Norse jacket was an improvement on the model I currently own from both a warmth and comfort perspective. As I mentioned above, it was a pretty cold and windy day but I managed to keep warm while being able to swing freely throughout the round. The vision trousers kept me very warm throughout the round."

The Bottom Line

"PING are a fantastic brand and their clothing lines are extremely underrated. Both of these garments perform great on the course and fall into the middle ground in terms of price point. If you are looking for some fantastic performance without breaking the bank, look no further than these two."

Rating

"A solid 8/10."
