TP Tour Legend Daniel Gaunt Wins at Prince's Golf Club
TP Tour legend Daniel Gaunt secured his 13th victory on the circuit at the renowned Prince's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, overcoming a strong field that featured players with multiple titles on the Challenge Tour.
Gene Sarazen won The Open at Prince's in 1932, but the venue has enjoyed a vast renovation in recent times, elevating its stature even further, with this latest tournament the first test of the new par 3 fifth hole ahead of Open Championship Qualifying being hosted next year.
Breezy conditions were the feature of the day, but Gaunt, the 41-year-old Australian, shot a two-under par 70 to win, despite making double bogey on the last, which opened the door for the pack, but home favourite Peter Wilson, Sean Whiffin, Louis Campbell, Daniel Brown, and Jon Poulton all came up just shot with 71s.
Gaunt has also been a serial winner on the Challenge and EuroPro Tour, playing and making the cut in the 2009 Open at Turnberry, before securing the Order of Merit on the TP Tour nearly a decade later.
