Course recovering from wet period well. Greens still a bit bumpy but will soon improve.

Great friendliness on arrival at golf club. Receptionist polite and helpful and old gentlemen in pro shop went the further yard in showing us around the complex.

Course well laid out and challenging. Greens not the best due to being recently staked but still ran true enough.

Very scenic and lots of interesting holes of varying length. Drainage needs improvement but I played after many days of rain so would expect it to be wet, and it is November. Tees and greens were great with no drainage problems whatsoever, even after all the rain. The par 3 nineteenth hole is a novel, great idea and a nice way to finish the round. The clubhouse and restaurant are very classy and the staff very cheerful and helpful. Looking forward to playing in better weather.

Grand design, interesting variety of hole layouts and some tough bunkering to plot your way past or escape from - they seemed more numerous as the round wore on but maybe that's because I started finding them! Greens were in very good condition with a nice roll. Fairways are generous enough to cope with the breeze and errant drives but if you reach the long stuff you deserve to lose your ball. Could imagine the course being a bit of a slog in wet weather. Clubhouse quiet on a Wed afternoon but guest locker room facilities were decent, if a little cramped for a golf society. Nice spot to sit out after the round and the overall setting is very pleasant.

This was built to be a top class championship course and as such the surroundings, facilities and course layout are all excellent. However, following some financial difficulties the owners have had to lower their aspirations. As a result the actual upkeep of the course doesn't quite do it justice. The tees, greens and fairways are maintained to the standards of a good municipal course. There are well publicised drainage problems on many fairways. To be fair the cost of a round has fallen considerably (as have the membership fees) and a weekend summer round is now available from £25 -£45 through tee-off times.co.uk. These price cuts in conjunction with the use of vouchers (Groupon,Bunkered etc.) have made the course a lot busier and less 'exclusive' resulting in some 5-hour+ rounds on this long course. In dry conditions it's worth £40-£50. In the wet I'd give it a miss and head for one of the excellent Ayrshire links courses such as Dundonald.

the best drive into a course in britain?quite possibly, it is absolutely majestic.
as for the course, well worth playing. long, tough and punishing but some holes are magnificent. the par 3's are sublime, more so on the front 9. the shorter par 4's read easy on paper but in reality can be either be rewarding or club snappingly annoying.
if your good at fairway bunker shots you will love this course, some of them are fiendishly placed and tough to get out.
the greens were amazing the twice i played there in different conditions. very true and nicely paced.
the bad bits, some holes feel a little uninspired and you can see the signature 19th hole far enough after slogging round this long course. the pylon in the middle of the fairway is a little mind boggling but drainagae seems to be the main problem. The course was soaking wet even after only moderate weather, very squelchy and hard to judge how to strike the ball. but it is a new course.....
overall worth it if you get a good offer, great scenery and some fantastic holes
