What the club says: Set in 600 acres of one of Scotland’s most glorious country estates, Rowallan boasts two of the finest castles in the land. Generations have been enchanted by the 13th century castle, birthplace of Elizabeth Muir the mother of Robert II, the first Stewart king of Scotland, with its distinctive sweeping staircase and manicured lawns.
Stretching to 7000 yards from the Championship tees Rowallan is a modern classic, to compliment Ayrshire’s existing golfing gems.

A great course to play and well worth the green fees. Course in overall great condition with the green running true and fast even at this time of year and over the extended high rain fall.
The glasshouse restaurant is top notch with a excellent and varied menus. One of the best roll in sausage I have ever had.Front 9 holes for the thinking golfer and back 9 for accuracy and big hitters. Course has a 19th hole for deciding a winner after a tie and for finishing hole after 9 holes. Come and play.

For golfers that have played this course before. Go back for another visit and experience the improvements to the playing surfaces. New machinery and staff have vastly improved all the playing surfaces and drainage . This can be very evident when putting greens are like lightning very consistent and a joy to play on.
The greens staff have also changed their cutting regimes withe a different cut on every fairway to improve the visual experience.
Best roll on square sausage ever.

Needs work

A great layout pity about the poor drainage both on fairways and first cut of rough. Greens area fantastic and totally playable. Played the hole course off a Matt that's was the only way to make any kind of score.

Quite a place

Historic stone castles lovely gardens and a well laced out course by Colin Montgomery.
Lots of bunkers to challenge your game fortunately I am not lone enough for them to give me to many problems,
Glasshouse restaurant was very good looking forward to a return with the wife for diner or lunch.
Give it a try if you are in the area you wont be disappointed.

Very interesting layout and design

Set in the grounds of a 13th century castle complex this course benefits from some amazing backdrops and views. Add in the skill and experience of Colin Montgomerie and you have a real golfing experience. It has an unusual 19 hole layout with the final hole called "The Decider". It fits beautifully into the available grounds and is a great idea, well executed. There had been very little rain in the past 3 weeks and the ground was hard but the greens were in an acceptable condition. The short holes are all challenges and are picturesque from all angles. This is a good course that will only get better with age as it has time to mature. I intend to return in a few years as I am convinced that it will mature into an extremely popular and well used facility. The variety of holes take advantage of the openness to the changing wind directions. We didn't sample the food as when our rounds had completed the restaurant had closed but all previous reviewers express positive comments. There is a real flow to the course layout and the fairway definition from the tee is really good. I recommend use of a course planner and be prepared for extra yardage to be walked between tee's if carrying or using a trolley. There are interesting terrain changes and some elevated tee's that give views across the course and its surrounding areas.I really enjoyed the experience of playing at Rowallan Castle.

Lovely course bit wet under foot in places but what do you expect mid February 2017. Once the course gets a chance to dry it will be excellent
. A rather long course will suit big hitters a lot better

first time I played course. Was really nice, though very open. Needs trees. Amazing amount of bunkers which was good. Seems very long course despite stated length. took over four hours for a fourball.
..... Course itself was a bit soggy. Disappointed a we bit at state of fairways. Loads and loads of divots not repaired. Though I'd guess this was due to members not replacing them more than anything. Signage on the course is non existent either. I was fortunate to be playing with a member who guided me from green to Tee, but if I was on my own I'd definitely have gotten lost.
On the positive. The course is very well laid out with the holes being well thought out. Some lovely dogleg holes and the par three's were all excellent.
overall I would recommend it. but go onto cheap tee times to book, as it is a bit overpriced at normal rate.
