Not bad

Not bad greens were a little thick. Tee boxes were not that good but overall for the money not bad.

Disappointing

There seems to be a lot of ground works ongoing, sadly this does not seem to extend to the tees. Very poor tee boxes with little to no flat ground d and for the most part very little grass.

This was the worst i have seen the course in over 2 years. The tee boxes were terrible, bare, uneven and full of divots. The greens were generally poor, bare patches, very uneven and hard to putt on. Fairways and rough was ok. Lots of new tee boxes being built which seems odd when the tees that exist and the greens are so poor. time needs to be spent making the greens better. Also the practise putting green was terrible and there are no practise nets.

Poor greens

Very strange course or is it unique design. The greens were really poor and extremely difficult to putt on!!! Too many ridges and bumps to put through. Some of the fairways need some tlc too!! It wasn't enjoyable for us but maybe everyone should judge for themselves.

So this was my first round here in a few months, as last time it was very poor. I'm pleased to say that the greens are much improved, with no bare spots and running very true (if not a little long). However, the tee boxes were covered in unrepaired divots as were the fairways. the grass on the fairways is far too long, and the first and second cuts of rough are also too long, and make it far too punishing. Need to lower the blades on their mowers! Might be back next year.

Course itself is in good shape and plenty of work has been done. Tees are good with all the stairs to them being tidied up, fairways are good and dry and well maintained.
The downside............. the bunkers are awful and the greens are shocking for the time of year. The greens are uneven, bobbly, poorly maintained with pitch marks allover. They look ok from a distance but when you get close they are awful. People pay good money to play as members and guests so surely they can do something with them. Anyone who says the greens are good is very much mistaken. Look around at other courses and compare then. The bunkers are full of stones and never get raked. Other courses have an attachment on their mowers to rake and smooth them.
Such a let down really as this place has bags of potential and could be a gem!

Played Sunday 8th April. Course was on full tees for first time. Given that they had been closed and used only once, I felt that they could've been in better condition and also cut much shorter. The fairways were defined but the first cut of rough was non existent and went straight to rough. The greens were very bobbly with the impact of unrepaired pitch marks clearly noticeable and lots of bare spots. For the price it is a reasonable course, but still needs a lots of investment. Also set up very long which may put off the average golfer.

Played course on Friday, fairways not been cut full of dandelions, greens all patchy and uneven didn't see anyone working on the course all day. This could de a great course if a bit of time and money was spent on it, price for round is a bit steep compared to other courses in better condition.

Club is still trying to get in shape. They've clearly done some work on the greens and they are better than 12 months ago, but the tee boxes and fairways are way short of a good quality course. Maybe 12 months will see it in better shape.

This course is really hit and miss, the layout of a lot of the holes is fantastic and its one of the more challenging courses I've played but, and its a big but, the course is massively under maintained. The greens are the biggest let down for this course, they are very slow with hardly any break in them and very patchy with far too many dead spots, they are rarely (If ever) rolled in my opinion, one of the group I was playing in left the ball on the 2nd tier of a 2 tier green and when he putted down the slope the ball barely even made it to the bottom which should be unheard of in the middle of summer. If I could take the ground staff from my local course to Northwest national it would be one of the best courses in the northwest and rival the likes of the Marriott Worsley but as it stands its on par with a municipal course.

The cost for 18 holes is a plus at £17.50 at the weekend which is good value for any 18 hole golf course. Its not a course I will return to in a hurry as there is far better value close by. In Short if you want a laugh with mates and you don't have a competitive side this course will suit you, if you want a competitive round go elsewhere.

Played North West National on the 24th of June. Just wonder if the greenkeepers have gone on strike. Worst greens I have played on this year. They need a certain thing called ' GRASS'. Huge investment needed on this course ie rollers for the greens, ball cleaners, new flags to name but a few. Could be an excellent course as it has the layout. Will come back one day in hope that's it's improved.

Northwest national golf and country club has potential to be one of the best courses in the northwest however currently there are better municipal courses nearby. The tee boxes are terrible. They are uneven, badly worn and constantly changing. The fairways are hit and miss, some areas ok and some poor. The greens though are the biggest problem with very little grass. Also in dry spells it almost impossible to stop the ball. Bunkers are full of stones which end up on greens. Paths are ok. The course in general is good with a few interesting holes however the maintenance of the course is shocking. Greens cut once a week at times. Fairway is not cut often enough. Pace of play is not good either with a complete disregard to the tee time bookings. Winter golf hammered this course and its not really recovered. Maybe next year it will improve but this year its not up to standard!
