Hidden gem but awful tee boxes
Played 21st July for the third time in around 6 years. Its a great track, with some fantastic holes from around 4 to 15 but in poor condition.
With the recent lack of rain i expected brown fairways but not bare tee boxes.
Unfortunately it looks like they have no sprinklers on the tee boxes, so have completeley lost them.
However the greens were fantastic, great speed and very true, it was a chalk and cheese scenario.
I will play again as i think its a great track but not till next year now, as i feel the tee boxes and fairways will take some time to recover
Buggy definitely recommended as some long walks from green to next tee

Great greens
Well maintained course with very interesting and different holes. The greens were really quick and after two rounds with no putts holed over 6 feet, my playing partner and I were not surprised to learn the course had recently hosted a championship tournament. I could believe the slope was 122 but then I'm not that good! Friendly, good facilities, will revisit.Reviewer Rating

Worth the challenge
Played the front nine in wintry conditions course playable. Need more signage on the course. Staff very helpful and friendly, golf shop and area soon to get an upgrade which they need, long walk to the hotel for drinks afterwards and at hotel prices. Would like to play in the better weather but would need a buggy.Reviewer Rating

Sir
Good condition but badly designed, huge walks between holes, par 4s to long to reach in two.Bar miles away, it's a oaps holiday resort, golfers treated like 2nd class citizens with residents given preferential treatment

Challenging and quirky
It's a lovely course in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. The greens were well kept and were a lot faster than what we are used to (that's our excuse anyway!), with lots of slopes and borrows etc. We played after heavy rain the day before so were unsurprised to see areas of standing water here and there- none on the greens, but several on approaches etc. There were a few holes that I have no doubt we would play better with a second round here, hence the quirky in the title.Reviewer Rating

St George?s day
Played Heythrop park for our annual St George?s day competition and we was not disappointed, greens and fairways were perfect. Only thing that could maybe be improved would be better markings on the tee boxes. Will definitely be returningReviewer Rating

Unbelievable Greens
Played 2 rounds at Heythrop park last weekend in testing conditions. As many other courses were closed due to the weather. Heythrop remained open and was in great condition all round except for a handful of spots that was soft. Greens were unbelievably in great condition. Hardly any pitch parks at all and were running very fast even in the rain to my dismay. Looking forward to playing this gem on a sunny day in 2024Reviewer Rating

Great Potential, but let down by course design
Clearly confined by the original park layout and converting it into a golf course, the design of many of the longer holes is perplexing and in some cases just poorly thought out. Together with the winding paths between tees its makes for an incredibly challenging course to walk (seemingly everyone has a buggy because of this). The grounds of the manor house are impressive and provide scenic views, just a shame the course itself couldn't live up to them.Reviewer Rating

Work Required
Having not played here for over 8 years I was very disappointed with the condition of some of the course. Tee boxes were awful, clearly not been watered for long time, very little grass on some and covered in sand on othersGreens again have clearly not been watered for a long time, brown and dying in patches and it only late may. I would hate to see then in a few weeks without any water.
Paths are untidy and the general appearance looks in kept in places
Fairways were excellent. It is such a shame, this course could be fantastic it is fairly clear warners who have taken over are not that interested in the golf. £40 a round is too much for the state of the course.

Lovely course, reasonable hotel
I don't often leave reviews but hopefully I can say something helpful about Heythrop.Firstly, the setting is fantastic. If you like golf to be quiet and away from main roads, then it definitely ticks that box. However, as others have noted, it is very expansive, and a long walk. We played a round behind some older golfers, and it took 5:20 (yes, five hours and twenty minutes).
The review before this one mentioned the condition of the course - I don't know what it would have been like in April but I know that lots of courses have been struggling, perhaps as a knock-on effect of lockdowns. All I can say is that of the 5-6 courses I have played this year, Heythrop was in by far the best condition.
As for the holes themselves, we thought they were almost all fantastic. Nearly all of them give you some kind of visual challenge or interest from the tee box. Others have mentioned the 18th, which is an arrow-straight par 5 up to the mansion, and visually unlike any other hole I have seen, but there are many others, not all of them straightforward.
The hotel feels a little odd. We all commented on this and later found out that it used to be a Jesuit education college (!), which perhaps explains the feeling of the place, as well as the small size of the rooms. The food was reasonably good, although I would avoid the steak, which was of poor quality and poorly cooked (although this is clearly very easily remedied!). I should add that the package we booked gave us a very generous food allowance of £32.50 per person per day. The odd feeling was exacerbated by the difficulties they are clearly having with staffing at present. The "pro shop" closed at 5:30 every day. On our arrival day, we wanted a drink and some food at 10:30, to be told that none of the bars or restaurants were open, having closed at 10, and would only re-open at 11. Hopefully this is also something that they will be able to remedy in the future, too.
