New management are starting to improve the course, starting with the greens that have improved lately. Still no bunkers though.

How they can call this a golf course is beyond me it's embarrassing worse course I've ever played fairways not cut winter mats basically unplayable apart from the greens it was just like hitting a ball around a public park and how the owners can be happy robbing off people making them pay to play on such a poor course is beyond me

Barlborough has had its share of ups and downs, and it's fair to say it's never lived up to its early promise. However the new owners are making a real effort here, and deserve a little support from Derbyshire golfers.
Drainage is much better than of old, fairways generally good, greens need some work, but I reckon £7 for 9 varied holes is spot on for an enjoyable mornings golf.
I keep reading how easy this course is, then I look at the scores posted and I wonder if it's so simple after all, truth is the course is quite straightforward in appearance, and not overly long & quite generous off the tees, but shooting around par even for single figure players requires some precision, it's easy to get out of position and bogey a hole on this course. The lack of heavy rough and thick trees, and of course no bunkers, probably mean not so many triple bogeys or worse, but I do know most golfers around here are shooting scores in the mid forties or worse, which for a "simple" par 35 seems a lot.
Stroke index 1 on the course is a 400+ yard par 4, uphill all the way, into the wind most days, out of bounds on the left, thick trees on the right, and in the wet it's a really wicked hole, as hard as any hole in Derbyshire. The final hole is a real beauty too, requiring a precise tee shot and challenging second.
I would say you'll use every club in your bag around these 9 holes, which is always a good sign.
Most people will have played here at some time, and I suspect often had a bad experience or two in the past, but I urge you all to give it another chance and stick by the new owners and see what can be achieved here. Surely no one wants to see another local course close down, remember Birch Hall?

Lovely day, not much wind, the ground is nearly unplayable, very soggy, drainage very poor, like a quagmire, greens running fast though.

Considering it was very windy and i hadnt played for over 2 weeks i was very pleased with my play, driving was very good, second shots not bad. chipping quite good, putting needs improving, probably my third best round on this course, ever, greens and condition of course is really so good, ground staff have and need to be commended for their hard work on keeping it in such good condition, the par 5 no 4 i was on the green in 2 and could have eagled had my putting been better, still birdied though, i hit 2 such sweet shots it was too good to be true, in fact the 2 lads that joined us to make up a 4 said that if they hadnt of seen it with their own eyes they wouldnt have believed it.

an enjoyable game of 9 holes, overcast and a bit windy, my putting let me down today, could have knocked off 5 points had it had been much better, still played under my handicap but i dont play enough to get much lower, i am quite happy staying on 12/14 handicap, it is a very good easy course but like this game proves that keeping your drives straight is the mark of a decent player, the greens are very good considering anyone can play on it regardless of experience, if only it were an 18 hole i would join it tomorrow.

i teed off at 1835 the weather was very good, a slight breeze, played with 3 other lads who were on par with my handicap, it wasnt my best game but the course was in very good condition, a very enjoyable evening, only used my driver twice and it felt ok but i played better driving off with my 5 wood, not so far but definately straighter. my short game was also quite good, need to practice more with my new putter, it doesnt feel quite right yet, missing a few short puts.
