Barlborough has had its share of ups and downs, and it's fair to say it's never lived up to its early promise. However the new owners are making a real effort here, and deserve a little support from Derbyshire golfers.
Drainage is much better than of old, fairways generally good, greens need some work, but I reckon £7 for 9 varied holes is spot on for an enjoyable mornings golf.
I keep reading how easy this course is, then I look at the scores posted and I wonder if it's so simple after all, truth is the course is quite straightforward in appearance, and not overly long & quite generous off the tees, but shooting around par even for single figure players requires some precision, it's easy to get out of position and bogey a hole on this course. The lack of heavy rough and thick trees, and of course no bunkers, probably mean not so many triple bogeys or worse, but I do know most golfers around here are shooting scores in the mid forties or worse, which for a "simple" par 35 seems a lot.
Stroke index 1 on the course is a 400+ yard par 4, uphill all the way, into the wind most days, out of bounds on the left, thick trees on the right, and in the wet it's a really wicked hole, as hard as any hole in Derbyshire. The final hole is a real beauty too, requiring a precise tee shot and challenging second.
I would say you'll use every club in your bag around these 9 holes, which is always a good sign.
Most people will have played here at some time, and I suspect often had a bad experience or two in the past, but I urge you all to give it another chance and stick by the new owners and see what can be achieved here. Surely no one wants to see another local course close down, remember Birch Hall?

Getting better all the time.

The continuous work being carried out on the course and it's facilities is starting to pay dividends, a pleasure to play on it these days.

Course is ok

The course is actually playing quite well considering how boggy the course is, greens are in such good condition compared to a few years ago and at this time of the year, too many players are still leaving pitch marks especially on the par 3 6th, a good little course for the price. Considering the course conditions I had a good round and my mate Nigel played well also.

Good to report Barlborough continues to dramatically improve under the new management team
Latest addition is a new reception and cafe facility which is due to open soon and will be a most welcome improvement.
Course is looking better and better, greens much improved on previous years, and drainage, an age old problem, is now improving as work is completed.
Just a review of the bunkering and some tidying of the tees and detailing should see Barlborough back to its original condition, and it's good to see the club getting busier and receiving some support from the Derbyshire golfing community.
Let's hope it's the start of better times for golf in Barlborough.

Friendly 9 Hole Course & Range

Nicely kept 9 hole course with flat driving range fitted with some launch monitors. Balls and mats on the range are good quality. And the greens on the 9 hole course were excellent for the time of year.

Course is in great condition compared with my visits a few years back. Very impressive work undertaken. Greens up there as some of the best in the area (too fast for me!). Perhaps investment in bunkers at some stage would assist otherwise keep up the great work. Final/9 hole lake gets me every time.

Course is looking good

Played 2 rounds of 9, first 9 not too good but pleased with the second 9, scored 45 and 41, the greens are so much better than ever before, Neil your a genius, I would still like to see the post markers for 100 and 150 mtrs, it would be so much easier to see them, the ones on the floor are not so visible, luckily I have got a rangefinder, no point in practicing and learning your distances if you can't see how far away you are, a big thanks too all really, course is becoming a little gem.

New Ownership.

This has been my local course since I could first hold a club however I'd never shout about it being my favourite course for a few reasons. However the course is now under new ownership and I couldn't imagine better people for it! They've improved the course no end already and from what they have been promising it's going to just keep getting better. Lovely people too.
The only major downside at the minute is the fact there is no clubhouse (due to a fire a few years back).
