Superb 18 hole championship course in great condition. Quite a long course with good fairways which are tree lined so accurate driving is required to achieve a good score. Greens are excellent with numerous bunkers protecting them with several holes having water hazards . A good challenge for all golfers.
Nice club house well staffed.

The hardest challenge in golf locally I would say, but what a course it is. Those who moan about this courses challenges need to look at their game rather than the layout. You need to come here and try your skills as it can destroy a good player quite easily with wayward tee shots. Greens great, layout excellent and the 18th finishing is a beauty. The food is always fantastic and the pro shop guys very welcoming. If you think you’ve got a game, try here and if you get through it unscathed get yourself a drink at the bar afterwards and breath a sigh of relief!

Dry

A tough round on a dry course. The recent sunny weather has clearly affected the quality. Nice to see the green keepers out in the heat trying to get it back to its usual standard

Continues to improve

The course has moved on significantly, it is in excellent condition and the improvements to the bunkering and water hazards add to the 'enjoyment' - in other words it looks good despite my inadequacies!

Can’t see the good for the trees!

Bondhay is laid out over interesting undulating terrain and the turf is good. I’m sure it was an excellent golf course when it was originally built to a Donald Steele design.

Unfortunately however, the owners have seen fit to almost completely ruin the experience by planting thousands upon thousands of trees flanking every fairway and intruding horribly on play. Any strategy and subtlety in the original design has been obliterated by tree growth and playing Bondhay today is a very dull and frustrating exercise in straight hitting.

It is no wonder that Donald Steele refuses to have his name any longer associated with the place.

There is a rumour afoot that a high profile top tour pro with local connections is interested in buying the club and taking it upmarket. I hope he’s got a lot of chainsaws!
