A good test
Generally accepted as one if the areas toughest courses, Bondhay rarely disappoints, its a nice mix of short tricky holes, longer par 4s and memorable par 5s, mostly tree lined fairways and plenty of dog legs, all bunkered to frustrate the wayward. The layout constantly attempts to take driver out of a players hands and as a consequence tests all other areas of your game, risk or reward is a constant theme.
Despite its length though, its not a bombers course, often rewarding a more planned approach, and for certain your short game will be tested!
This is a track for the players out there.
Grumbles generally surround the many bunkers and their condition which is variable to say the least, and Its no surprise that quite an effort is being made at present to fill in many of the bunkers that weren't really in play and this should ensure that the survivors should in future recieve the maintenance they require.
Great off course facilities including a lovely 19th with good food and reasonably priced drinks complete the picture of a good quality reasonably priced golf facility that sets a test all serious golfers should sit at least once.

The tees, fairways and greens are usually in fantastic condition, although the bunkers are a bit lacking in soft sand far my liking. Greens will hold well if you hit them on the fly, and you need to do that as every hole has bunkers covering at least part of the entrance to the green.
As others have said, the punishment for a slightly off line shot can be very severe with bunkers only inches from the greens on every hole and trees only a couple of feet from most of the fairways, plus fairway bunkers on most holes.
What others have not mentioned is that if you avoid the water then you should not really lose a ball unless you hit a really wild shot. The rough is fairly short through most of the course, but miss the fairway and your only option may well be a chip back onto the short stuff due to the trees blocking your route.
After seeing all the changes over the last 20 years, I would say the course is better for it overall but I do think a few less bunkers would improve things further, or at least move them a bit further away from the greens.
The 18th is a real disappointment for me. They have tried to make a grand stand finishing hole but its more like crazy golf if you ask me. Its a bit of a "marmite" hole. You either love it or hate it, and for me its the latter.
The club house and driving range are not the best you will ever see and could really do with some work which would greatly improve the visitors experience.
Overall though its a quality course at a very reasonable price. Just don't expect to get a low score !!

Fairways are a bit narrow so straight hitting is a must.
Greens in perfect condition.
I will definitely play again.

Tough course in good condition
Fairways very good for the time of year, ball sits up nicely.Greens were true, though aeration holes visible. Mark may well have been higher, but with some facilities not open because of covid, i couldn't grade properly. This is a proper test, and you need to be long, and you need to be straight.

One of the most difficult course played
One of the most difficult courses played in 25 years. Very nicely set out and lovely looking holes but far too many bunkers and trees to be able to fully enjoy. If you can hit every club straight you may get on. Interesting shaped holes. Lovely clubhouse and shop. Staff very welcoming. A shame I didn't get the most from the course and sad to say one I will not return to.(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 110 Handicap: 18.8)
