The Crown course is a park land set up offering plenty of challenges for the most experienced of golfers. Small, manicured greens and well placed hazards make 36 points a struggle!
The club has a lot of work going on at the moment with a new Bar, Clubhouse, Reception and 18 new hotel rooms currently being built.
The courses are under renovation as well.
Definitely advise checking this one out!!

So, what’s the problem? I hear you ask.
Well there are 2. The lack of staff meant we were kept waiting some 20 minutes or more for four drinks and on another occasion we booked dinner for 8.30 and didn’t start eating till 10.15. The poor girl was trying to run the reception, bar and taking the dinner orders all at the same time (she really did do a good job) There was a party of 16 before us, but really, any hotel should be able to cope with that.
The second problem and by far the most important, were the greens, although looking splendid were unbelievably slow, 30ft putts were only just going past half way and bobbled from side to side when slowing down, making putting a lottery. I think this would be unfair criticism if this were the first time playing here but we played here 4 years ago and the greens were just as slow, but they may have had there reasons then, so we thought. Having spoken to some of the members they say they are lucky to get normal paced greens for 2 months of the year. It again looks like they don’t have the staff to cut them or can’t afford the machinery to cut them short enough.
So a note to the owners, despite the good you are turning serious golfers away from your hotel. But get the greens right, (which in my humble opinion is the difference between success and failure) and in the immortal words of Arnold Swartzenegger “I will be back”. But not right now.
Regards,
Richard Czezowski

Cromwell = Outstanding
An outstanding golf course, carved superbly into the Gloucestershire countryside. The layout is superb, where you just have to hang on for the first 9 before getting to the more scoreable back 9. The 7th is a great hole, go for it or lay up, it's a tricky decision.
The greens are superb, true & fast, OMG are they fast.
It's a course I'd need to play 2 or 3 times to really work it out.
The hotel looks fantastic, I didn't use the facilities, but it looks fantastic.
This is a must play, especially for £15 on Golf Now.

Great course
We played the Codrington on a very wet and windy day. The course is challenging, however rewards good play. A fair amount of water on several of the holes, but this just added to the challenge in a good way. The 1st was a bit difficult to find and I would recommend taking a course planner. The professional in the shop was helpful and very welcoming and the members we met during the round were extremely friendly and approachable. We all would love to play this course again in the sunshine! Try and wait for a discounted offer.Reviewer Rating

I always wonder why the owners never spend any money on this place it could be one of the most popular golf venues in the southwest if it had a proper clubhouse not portacabins, the bigger pro shop was ever finished and they improved the practice area e.g. floodlit range.

The only criticism I have with this course is the bunkers which are inconsistent, some having very little sand in them resulting in hitting rocks just bellow the sand level

Could be better
Played the Crown as the Cromwell was under maintenance. Greens didn’t look the best but putted very well albeit too many out there not repairing their pitch marks. Main issue was the fairways which were just as long as the rough and badly in need of a cut. Decent layout and was just in need of a bit more care.Reviewer Rating
