Played the Cromwell at the weekend and was sadly disappointed.Course layout and challenge is good with some interesting holes, better to plot your way round than just smash it.
No sand in the bunkers (not marked as GUR) and greens had been attacked by birds pecking for grubs so borderline playable.
Nothing mentioned about this in the pro shop when they fleeced me for £35.00. Will not be recommending this venue because of this.

Tee Areas Were Woeful - Not Cut Properly At All - Was like Teeing It Up in the Rough - Greens terrible - really bobbly / very slow / and holes in them from crows I guess.Reviewer Rating

Nice layout
Played the. Cromwell many times before and enjoyed it except in bad weather because it is exposed in places. On this occasion however we had glorious sunshine and a warm day but sadly the condition of the course was a real let down. The tees were rough, bumpy with long grass and bare patches. The grass on most of the fairways was too long, and the greens were patchy. Some had bare patches and holes in them, but they were all slow, and bumpy.
A real shame. I fought I’ll return again this year.

The course offered a lot of promise with nicely shaped holes, beautiful scenery and enough features to make each hole interesting. The disappointing part of the course, for me, was the lack of attention paid by the green keeping staff. The fairways were long and looked like they hadn't been cut over the weekend and provided no real advantage to being in the semi rough. The greens were also long and inconsistent. I found it very difficult to get a good read of both line and pace and found that my ball took significant bobbles on a number of puts.
Generally a nice course and atmosphere around the club, but a step up in green keeping standards is required before I come back for another round. Standard of the course was mis-sold somewhat on the website which offered an award winning standard championship quality course.

So, what’s the problem? I hear you ask.
Well there are 2. The lack of staff meant we were kept waiting some 20 minutes or more for four drinks and on another occasion we booked dinner for 8.30 and didn’t start eating till 10.15. The poor girl was trying to run the reception, bar and taking the dinner orders all at the same time (she really did do a good job) There was a party of 16 before us, but really, any hotel should be able to cope with that.
The second problem and by far the most important, were the greens, although looking splendid were unbelievably slow, 30ft putts were only just going past half way and bobbled from side to side when slowing down, making putting a lottery. I think this would be unfair criticism if this were the first time playing here but we played here 4 years ago and the greens were just as slow, but they may have had there reasons then, so we thought. Having spoken to some of the members they say they are lucky to get normal paced greens for 2 months of the year. It again looks like they don’t have the staff to cut them or can’t afford the machinery to cut them short enough.
So a note to the owners, despite the good you are turning serious golfers away from your hotel. But get the greens right, (which in my humble opinion is the difference between success and failure) and in the immortal words of Arnold Swartzenegger “I will be back”. But not right now.
Regards,
Richard Czezowski

Could be better
Played the Crown as the Cromwell was under maintenance. Greens didn’t look the best but putted very well albeit too many out there not repairing their pitch marks. Main issue was the fairways which were just as long as the rough and badly in need of a cut. Decent layout and was just in need of a bit more care.Reviewer Rating

worth a visit
Shorter of the 2 courses at Tracy Park, but always enjoyable with plenty to challenge you... in pretty good condition despite the wet weather , bunkers a little hit and miss and greens a bit of a mixture ( in terms of pace) but for the time of year it was to be expected(Round played: Jan 2022 - Score: 91 Handicap: 18.8)
