Wow! Simply Stunning!

The best course I have played ever. Challenges any golfer yet makes you want to carry on and defeat it even more. Hope to be back again soon in the future. Amazing!

Superb

Played RSG on a beautiful day in early September. The wind was about 15mph. I started brilliantly, only 3 over after 10. It went down hill a bit after that as I started driving badly. The course is great especially the front nine. Holes 2 to 8 are the most memorable. 4 is iconic, with the massive bunker you drive over and 5 has those mountainous sand dunes to go over for you second shot. The changing rooms are nice but I found the bar a bit underwhelming. Still we enjoyed a couple of masterbrews outside on the terrace - very nice.

The Open venue for 2020

Just phenomenal, this course is fantastic, a real challenge, particularly when the wind blows.
The championship tees add plenty of length and a different outlook to most of the holes.
Thoroughly enjoyed this majestic course and highly recommend to play it, if you get you the chance.

Deserved No1

Not much I can add to what has already been said. Simply wonderful.
Fully-deserving if its ranking as England?s No1. Every hole an experience and adventure..especially some of the routes I took!
A demanding but fair test where good shots can be rewarded, if you avoid the bunkers! A complete privilege to play.

True Links

Not a flashy venue but so much history and tradition take a while to look at the clubs, trophies and memorabilia from past opens in the cabinets in the clubhouse. Great changing rooms and the staff were 1st class from the pro shop, clubhouse and green staff. Get the full English it will keep you going all day!! Yes having to wear a jacket after 11am is a bit old fashioned but that’s there tradition and adds to the grandure of the place.
The course was in great condition for the time of year and every hole is different and depending on wind direction can play very long or shorter than expected I wouldn’t say a caddy is vital but a course planer is. The fairways are undulating and make for some tricky approach shots!
This is a true links gem. And at £100 off peak fantastic value.

Golfs garden of Eden

A true test of golf, beautiful layout to forget the real world and walk in the footsteps of the greats of this wonderful game.
My favourite course by a country mile the blind shots punishing bunkers and sloping greens it's heaven.
Wonderful wonderful venue
Shame on anyone who can find fault at St Georges

Hugely Enjoyable

Only managed to get 9 holes played the previous week due to horrendous weather. Good to experience a true links course at its worst (weather). The club were kind enough to allow us to re-book and the conditions couldn't have been more different. Bright sunshine/no wind and a true pleasure to play the course. On both occasions found the staff to be most welcoming and friendly. Superb.

I am not sure why Royal St Georges permits green fee players .It has many socities playing and a solid membership. .St Georges is an experience of understated quality from the very moment you enter the lane to the club , to playing on the huge layout and to lunching afterwards. There are those who are not accustomed to changing for lunch , nor to restrained welcomes and write critical reports .Every time I play there , I have had a wonderfully relaxing day . The greens and fairways need maintenance and rotten luck if you play at these times , but really , you can still enjoy the challenge .

A course that can be difficult to navigate for the first time. I was quite nervous as the course has a a daunting reputation, but it was really good to test myself on a more challenging course. Stay straight off the tee or lose a lot of golf balls!

As Seve said on his first visit ¿dónde está el campo de golf. Where is the golf course.
The biggest most cragged dunes of any Course on the Open rota, leading to many blind tee shots, and if it's a little wet underfoot you will get severe sloppy lies even from good tee shots. Many of the pros dislike it as they see it as unfair and unrewarding of their perfect strikes. But for everyone else who is less good than scratch, I argue that the large verging on enormous greens and bunkers mostly set a few yards back from the putting surface make St Georges the most fun to play of any British Links. The pros would take Birkdale all day long, but most amateurs will tire of the bunkers left and right off every tee shot and small greens always running off into the pots. By contrast, St Georges is far more forgiving, and in many places very flattering. Yes the clubhouse rules are stuck in the past, Lytham and Liverpool for example are virtually fully open to the visitor who can spend ages soaking up the history on display, St Georges is a little more.... Self important. But you know, that's ok. The George even seems to have a machine to keep the rough penal but sufficiently thinned out to make losing balls a rarity the times I've played it. If I had to play just one course the rest of my life - maybe this one. Magnificent.
