turf
The turf is excellent to strike balls from, even in Winter. Greens were pure and rolled fast and true. The fescue was cut back a lot this time of year which means it played much easier for us than it would in the summer with less ball searches required, so an acceptable pace of play too.Reviewer Rating

I absolutely loved the history and immaculate condition of this course. It lived up to all my expectations of an Open venue. The greens were exceptional, and everything was well-tended. I definitely need to play here a few more times to really appreciate it!

Fantastic ourse - definitely worth a visit!
Hosted the Open in 2021, absolutely premium course to play. Great if you keep it straight. Comfortable shoes recommended as quite firm under foot. Remember a suit, shirt and tie if you want to eat/drink inside the clubhouseReviewer Rating

Wow! Simply Stunning!
The best course I have played ever. Challenges any golfer yet makes you want to carry on and defeat it even more. Hope to be back again soon in the future. Amazing!(Round played: Jun 2020 - Score: 95 Handicap: 12.2)

Superb
Played RSG on a beautiful day in early September. The wind was about 15mph. I started brilliantly, only 3 over after 10. It went down hill a bit after that as I started driving badly. The course is great especially the front nine. Holes 2 to 8 are the most memorable. 4 is iconic, with the massive bunker you drive over and 5 has those mountainous sand dunes to go over for you second shot. The changing rooms are nice but I found the bar a bit underwhelming. Still we enjoyed a couple of masterbrews outside on the terrace - very nice.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 83 Handicap: 11.7)

The Open venue for 2020
Just phenomenal, this course is fantastic, a real challenge, particularly when the wind blows.The championship tees add plenty of length and a different outlook to most of the holes.
Thoroughly enjoyed this majestic course and highly recommend to play it, if you get you the chance.

Not much I can add to what has already been said. Simply wonderful.Fully-deserving if its ranking as England?s No1. Every hole an experience and adventure..especially some of the routes I took!
A demanding but fair test where good shots can be rewarded, if you avoid the bunkers! A complete privilege to play.

Not a flashy venue but so much history and tradition take a while to look at the clubs,trophies and memorabilia from past opens in the cabinets in the clubhouse. Great changing rooms and the staff were 1st class from the pro shop, clubhouse and green staff. Get the full English it will keep you going all day!! Yes having to wear a jacket after 11am is a bit old fashioned but that’s there tradition and adds to the grandure of the place.The course was in great condition for the time of year and every hole is different and depending on wind direction can play very long or shorter than expected I wouldn’t say a caddy is vital but a course planer is. The fairways are undulating and make for some tricky approach shots!
This is a true links gem. And at £100 off peak fantastic value.
