A holiday course, but challenging in parts. You need to know where you are going and what lies ahead. No course guides.

The standard weekday winter green fee for a visitor without a guest is £60. Fortunately I did not pay this as I booked through the Tee Off Times website. There is absolutely no way that this course is worth that amount of money. I was fortune to play the Championship Course at Burnham and Berrow (5 miles down the coast) a fortnight ago with a member for £30, but even without a member it would only have cost £50 for a winter green fee. In my view, WSM is a plainer track which doesn't have facilities of an equal standard, nor does it present value for money in comparison.
The practise facilities at WSM are limited; there is a putting green and 2 warm up nets in the car park, to which cars park so close that your ball runs off the back of the net, past the player and under parked cars. With the exception of a few holes, the course really isn't that interesting to play, with lots of very straight holes down wide fairways. The land is pretty flat and there are not that many features. As mentioned above, the greens were good, however, it was disappointing to see how many divot marks had not been repaired. At this time of year I can't imagine that there are too many visitors, so I would assume that it is members failing to care for their own course. Curiously the white and yellow tees on the 15th had been moved up by over 100 yards to the ladies tee, and as stroke index 2, this hole didn't play fair.
It is unlikely that I would play again due to the lack of variety of the course and the prohibitive cost. That said, if you can get a cheap green fee and want to play on a course which will hold up over the winter, this might be a good option.

Pleasantly Suprised
Finally got round to playing this course after driving past it hundreds of times in the past. This was my first try on a real links course and I have to say it was thoroughly enjoyable. I was very fortunate that it was a calm day because I can imagine this is a brutal test when the wind is really blowing. The only negative is the fact the course is very compacted, we were fortunate it was a quiet day as at peak time it could get a bit hairy with balls flying everywhere. The greens were perfect and true links style. If you want a real links test and are in the area then I would definitely recommend giving this one a go.(Round played: Jul 2017 - Score: 95 Handicap: 19.4)

The course was in very good condition. We did find that inside the club house the bar never opened until 1100hrs. which was strange as it was open but not serving.
