PM Walton Heath

Facilities at this club are second to none and service food and drink were excellent. The Old course was a Championship course and priced accordingly, however it was dominated by Heather which was everywhere and golfers in our group all found it at one stage or another. Apart from that it was pretty ordinary if I am honest and was due entirely to the Heather a low handicappers course. We as a group got a deal but in general it is overpriced, if you are more than a 9 handicap I would think twice, for a number of us it is not a course we will revisit.

Walton Heath steeped in history but seems still to be living off it. Layout is great but the on course conditions are poor for such a prestigious venue and a steep green fee to match

Nice course

Historic course loads of history in club house. Greens were ok ish but understand there's some bid events coming up in the year.
Bunkers some good but some had work going on.
Fairways and tee boxes very good.

Made to feel very welcome on a wet and windy day. We were advised that the greens had been hollow tined a week earlier but they played pretty well if no doubt a little slower than normal. Played on the old course on the winter offer so good value compared with summer green fee. It's a decent track and one to 'tick off' but if I'm being honest not overly memorable to entice me back. One point I would add and I'm surprised that other reviewers have not mentioned is the noise of the M25. Apart from the 1st hole you can hear the road on pretty much every hole and we had to significantly raise our voices on the 9th tee! Granted it was a wet day which probably increases the noise but it does detract from the experience.

Walton Heath New Course

Played on a very cold frosty day. The course stood up very well but the heather is a real problem. Not very long but very difficult to find a ball. Needs reducing. The course is flattish, quite interesting and very good greens. Club house excellent and friendly staff and good parking.

Give it a few weeks

The course has just been hollow tyned and top dressed and there is a lot of pipe works going on at the moment so I'd give it a few weeks if you want it in better condition. It was still a lot of fun to play around, despite the 4 seasons in one day and howling wind!

Company day and excellent value for me but the review is based on paying advertised Green fees. The 2 courses are on the same apparently featureless area of land. However, based on my benchmark test of hole recollection, I recalled each of the 36 holes the evening after the event. The sun was shining and I played reasonably well but this aside the venue is superb. Course presented to a very high standard and greens were true but frighteningly fast. Not cheap but if you're looking for something special this is certainly worth considering.

Played here on a special Society celebration occasion. It is clear to see from the grounds, the club house and all areas of the course why it is a Championship course, with rich history. I found the greens a bit fast for my liking, but certainly a very good gorse heathland course. I personally wouldn't pay the typical green fees on another occasion.

Classic heathland - real championship test

The Old at Walton Heath is everything you expect from a classic English heathland course that has hosted the top champtionship events in years past. It is wonderfully conditioned with lovely fairways and true-running greens. But it has real teeth, especially in the 2 club wind that followed us round. Narrow fairways flanked by tough heather and long, whispy rough maked straight driving essential. It is hard on the eye - being so flat and with little definition it is hard to figure out how far the landing areas are off the tee. You probably need to play a few times to understand the course well. Hopefully I will get a chance to go back.

strategic golf, wide fairways

Walton Heath is a well thought out golf course. Even though the tee shots are quite generous, the bunkering in such that you need to be careful not to find them. The tee boxes and fairways had suffered due to the lack of rain. The greens were quite receptive and putted fast and true. Par 3's were quite a challenge due to their length off the men's tournament tees. I found the topography a bit monotonous, being basically a flat layout.

Wonderful heathland course suffering from drought

This is a wonderful golfing venue. Both courses are excellent, the Old shading the New . Sadly droughts had ravaged many fairways leaving conditions requiring pick and place which was not a local rule on our day - a lot of work to be done before the IAG Open comes! Because of COVID restrictions the clubhouse provision was necessarily very limited

Great course and a great challenge. Not many courses start with a 235 yard par 3. The greens were like putting on marble but ran smooth and true. Some very well placed bungers to catch your drives even if you hit a good one.

Walton Heath is a fabulous facility. It is a 'proper' golf club, very traditional. There are two courses, the Old which is more famous and is slightly longer and the New. Both are side by side and share the same terrain, so they are pretty equal. Both are in the top 100 courses in the U.K. It has lots of history, as James Braid was the pro there and the Ryder Cup has also been played there, so loads of pictures adorn the walls. The US open qualifier is also played there each year, so there is also signed player memorabilia in abundance. The clubhouse is very nice and the food is exceptional. I have been here several times over the years and the welcome can be a little frosty but today it was the best I have ever experienced there. The reception and bar staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The courses are simply outstanding and a true test of golf. The greens are true and normally very fast. When you finish, the showers and changing facilities are first class. The only issue with Walton is the cost. It is £130 a round which is obviously not cheap and means the average person can only play it once in a while or for a special occasion.

Walton Heath is simply an outstanding golf club. The courses are always presented in beautiful condition with fantastic and fast greens. It is not cheap to play here and green fees are around £150 but it really is a truly special place. The Ryder Cup was played here in 1981 and every year the USOpen qualifying takes place on the last Bank Holiday in May when you can see big names from the tour up close and personal.
