What the club says: Less than an hour from London you will find Surrey Downs Golf Club, set in the rolling Surrey Hills with spectacular views across The Downs. Peter Alliss was commissioned to design the course in keeping with the surroundings and he has produced a down land golf course which enhances the natural beauty of the hills.
The golf course is maintained to a very high standard with the greens being to USGA Specification. The downland setting normally provides a breeze which adds an alternative aspect to the challenging but very scenic rough with a particular feature being our large shared 9th and 18th green which is well protected by a large pond coming into play on both holes.
The course is challenging for golfers of all abilities with interestingly designed holes which require thought on course strategy over sheer length of hit and with this in mind it is a hugely enjoyable course which rewards good play.

Best I've ever seen it
Played this course loads as it near to my house. I was a member for a year but didn't re-join as they let it go a bit. Its owned by Orida group and I think it was a case of not investing in the course and focusing on the venue side. Anyways, they have now invested in a great team of greens people and its absolutely mint! Worth a visit before the winter kicks in.Reviewer Rating

Not long but challenging
I'm a member here so may be biased but in a nut shell , main cons are rough is big and brutal, wind is constant and greens are challenging. But the course is in amazing condition ! A real credit to the staff. The club house is welcoming and has an amazing kitchen and staff! Play straight and you'll enjoy it . Also the wild life around the course is beautiful to seeReviewer Rating

Maintenance was only part done and the green fees were same as fully maintained course = should've been reduced as a courtesy, but wasn't

Very comfortable
This course deserves a thumbs up, it's not over developed with a substantial club house with plenty of space to an old style golf range which in my opinion is the best....The course itself is fairly narrow and you do have to think before you shoot.....The rough is unforgiving lush and already a good 10 inches deep and soon to be way above knee height as for the greens they are fairly fast but the secret undulations can make or break your day. A few bunkers all set at a reasonable distance if a bit stoney but I'm sure the green keepers will be working there magic soon.Over all a great course and deserves a visit, good luck in the roughReviewer Rating

Love this course. In great condition currently. Green are slick. Only downside is all the bunkers where GUR so they are obviously are having some struggles to maintain them which is a surprise.Reviewer Rating

Surrey Downs Golf April 23
The golf course was in reasonable condition given the recent weather, and in fact the greens were rolling quite well even though we had rain the night before. fairway grass still a bit long, probably as it has not been easy to cut the grass recently. Bunkers were all GUR, but this was not really well signed and we only found out after the round, and this definitely cause us to shoot higher scores. With this in mind you wonder if ?55 was justifiable, given that after 10.00 the green fee was much less but this was not really articulated when we booked the course so was a bit annoying for the sake of 20 minutes.Reviewer Rating

Grass too long on the fairways
Played here earlier in the week for first time in years. The course itself & layout, plus views on what was a sunny clear day were all good, BUT our experience was let down by the fairways. The grass was the same length as probably what a third cut would be in summer, which made it a lot tougher than you should experience on a course like thisReviewer Rating
