Limited facilities but a decent course

This was my first time at Chipstead. The course is demanding but fair. A little more generous cutting of the rough and indeed the fairways might be in order now that the weather is changing. My main disappointment was in the lack of facilities on offer on arrival. It's always nice to have a freshly made coffee and a modest breakfast sandwich before embarking on that challenging first tee shot! Sadly, only cold chocolate bars and machine coffee (?1:50) were on offer.

Summer roll in January

Excellent course for winter. Greens with proper roll & all the breaks. Fairways free from mud. Bit of a complicated lay out for 1st timers which made for a slowish round & the wind was strong but v keen to get back

My old home course - not played here for 30 years. Great memories and course very well looked after. I recall smoking round the back of the junior’s club hut. It’s now gone!

Beautiful Course

Really enjoyable round, course wasn't too busy, everyone at the club seemed extremely friendly and welcoming.
As for the course itself, was in great condition, really felt it has something for everyone too with challenging holes mixed with holes you could be more aggressive on.

Really enjoyed my round, will be back, would recommend to anyone looking to play in South London/Surrey.

Hadn't played here for ages. Course was great nick. Greens weren't the quickest but very true. Interesting course in itself and has the quirk of 3 long par 3's in a row from 11-13 all of which are tricky. Some elevation changes and several sloping fairways but generally pretty fair. Good pint in the clubhouse post round and friendly chap in the pro shop. Will head back in due course. £30 for twilight round was well worth it.

Nice local course

Really nice local course. Never going to be a championship offering, but a sufficient challenge on a summer’s evening. Not long, so in most cases the par threes (all six of them) offered the greatest challenge into the green. Really well looked after, especially greens which ran very true. Pro-shop polite and nice terrace to sit on after round.

Average course. Rude pro shop

Played Chipstead after some years. The course condition has improved a lot, credit goes to the greenkeeping team!! Fairways and greens very well kept and like the small changes they have made as well eg. practice nets.
Challenging course in some parts, particularly the 3 consecutive 200yd par 3s. Some longish par 4s. The greens are nice, but they don’t compensate enough for the course being so short. There are a lot of par 3s. Also a lot of holes are next to one another and a few cross one another. At some points, you can see 5 fairways next to one another. You also have different tee boxes positioned right next to one another, which can slow the round down slightly.
Pro shop are extremely rude. The course was not busy but they were not happy one of our players was running 15mins late.
Bizarrely given long summer evenings and more WFH, you can’t even tee off late and just pay at the bar (which is open until 9.30pm!!) – something which other clubs nearby do.
The pro shop think they are a “very exclusive” private members club. Pity, better off using more friendlier clubs nearby, who are also of similar condition and have more common sense in running a golf club.

Always good!

Respite from the recent and relevant situation as I played a Fourball with mates on Monday 16th March. Two temporary greens due to annual course maintenance programme, alerted to at booking and on day itself. Course in good nick considering recent weather problems and an enjoyable time had by all. Will be returning again soon as Chipstead is always challenging and thought-provoking necessitating course management skills at all times.

Decent Track 100% Coming Back

Not sure what course the review below played... overall my group and I had a great day out at Chipstead. Hilly in places but that's what made the golf course challenging. The course is not the longest but fairly tight so there is an emphasis on hitting the ball straight to produce a good score. The condition of the golf course considering it is November was superb. Greens fantastic, aprons, tees and fairways also at a high standard. We played here in the summer in which it was superb so it was nice to see the condition of the place has stayed up to Par going into the winter. They were doing a deal that weekend of £30 per player in which for weekend golf and for the quality of the course provided great value. Very welcoming staff in the professionals shop upon arrival. Signposting could be a tad better however on our second time of playing it was easy to navigate once you've played here before. in regards to the 3 par, 3's on the bounce its either a score maker or a score breaker as we found in our match! All 3 are 180+ in yardage with a couple around the 210-220 yard mark so they are no pushover par 3's! The course was a good mixture of challenges all the way around. We will be back! 4.5/5 from us.

Worth a visit

A hilly course with some nice views. Though short, its tricky and tight. Well looked after by the greenkeepers with decent fairways and quick greens. Only two par 5's and with three long par 3's in a row on the back nine.

A number of blind shots makes the round tricky playing it for the first time. One drawback is the number of tees close to greens. To be safe you may have to wait until the tee clears before hitting your approach shot. The course was quiet when we played however if playing when the course is busy it could lead to a long round.

You will need an accurate tee shot to some of the sloping fairways which are very steep.

I will return to play it again now I know the layout, hopefully on another quiet day. Worth a visit.

Played at this course for the first time today. Even before we had got to the pro shop we had been greeted by several members who were extremely friendly and welcoming.
Unfortunately all buggies were in use - for good reason. This is a very hilly course and a physical challenge for more mature walkers (or players lacking fitness).
The hilly nature adds significantly to the challenge with club selection being very important. There are a number of blind tee shots. This is a course where using a driver is not for the faint hearted and often a more conservative approach will pay dividends.
The condition of the course was very good. Despite the greens having been treated recently with “ sand” liberally sprinkled throughout they ran true, were very fast and most had subtle breaks which proved a real test of green reading skills.
Overall - a very challenging yet hugely enjoyable test of golf. Definitely going back but only if buggies are available.

Hilly is an under statement

Be prepared for a workout. Course on the side of hill. Exhausted pushing the trolley around. Particularly holes 4, 5, 6 and 17. Greens and tee boxesin good condition even with all the rain. For high handicapper , like myself, be prepared 11,12 and 13. All par 3 and 200 yards. Tough ask. Enjoyed my round though even if breaking hundred is tough.

Played here a few times now, the course condition and the greens improve every time I come back. Some really well set holes, great views of the surrounding area, greens where fast and rolling Great. Spoke to a few greens staff who where also very helpful and polite.

Also good to see the improvements on the club house, new decor plus other features. Front of house also very friendly and the food is fantastic.
Excited every time I go back to see what changes have happened. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a new course to play.

Hidden gem

I really don't want to give this course a good review, as more people may find it! We saw one person the whole way round!! An interesting course with some funny holes, but the greens are good and I like the challenge of the long par 3's. A bit tight on some holes, with fairways very close together, but some clever tree placement help.

Short, tight course. Greens, bunkers and tee boxes well maintained although some fairways could have done with another cut. The layout is a bit perplexing with the 1st and 18th crossing fairways, many tees where you shoot close to other greens and an access road (well used by cars and pedestrians) that is crossed four times. Hole 4 is a bit of a farce at this time of year because the fairway is so sloping that it doesn't matter where you hit it, it rolls down and either bounces against the fence or goes through it and out of bounds. I preferred the second half of the course where there were several long and testing par 3s.
