Overrated course with dated facilities
Poorly designed course despite the generally positive reviews - short, narrow, and monotonously unforgiving off the tee. Absurd over use of gorse bushes and thick vegetation.“Gorse and water share the disadvantage that it is practically impossible to play out of them and they are a frequent cause of lost balls. It would appear, therefore, that that they should not be used to any great extent as hazards.”
(H S Colt, Essays on Golf-Course Architecture, 1920)
“There should be a complete absence of the annoyance and irritation caused by the necessity of searching for lost balls.”
(Alistair Mackenzie, Golf Architecture, 1920)

Tired, needs watering!
Good Layout after 3rd Hole. Very slow play. Tired set up, buildings and condition, Greens quick but well worn, It Rests on history and tradition - needs an enormous upgrade!(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 100 Handicap: 19.8)

Greens not watered at all and if you run off the fairway your ball is pretty much lost in the heather, hardly any cut on the fairways and one of the most unforgiving courses I've played.

Thorpeness Weekend
Hospitality and accommodation very good but on course the fairways, some tee boxes and greens looking tired. No marshalling on course to move slow play along - 5 hour plus 4 Ball round not good.Reviewer Rating
