Its set on an open piece of land so you are always going to be subject to some wind, depending on how strong may effect your enjoyment is you struggle playing in windy conditions. That said there is lots of different tee options now so can still be enjoyed.
I always find that the course gets better every time I go back. The greens are always great and there is some real scoring chances to go at.
It is clay based so does get dry and firey in the summer almost like a links course, but will get a bit wet in the winter months and play slightly harder with some natural water hazards.
The 9th and 18th are great holes playing towards the clubhouse and if you time it right there is no better place to be than the top end of the course on a late summers evening.
I know people than dont like it here - I can't see why. Lovely enjoyable round of golf.

Maturing nicely
This course continues to mature and looks fantastic at the moment. The fairways look narrow and the rough thick, but that is deceiving as the rough is light and whispy for the majority. The greens are vast and have many pin options. The practice facilities are excellent. A worth while day out.Reviewer Rating

Worth visiting
Whilst St Ives golf club was founded in the 1920's, this layout was only bought in 2007, and opened in 2010. It does however seem a lot more mature, although there is a distinct sparsity of trees. This makes the course seem quite open, but it has the advantage of making it difficult to play when the wind gets up.Lockdown had just been eased when we played, so no rakes in bunkers, and the course was being started from the 10th tee. We didn't know this, so teed off at the 1st, and the pro-shop guy came out and we were allowed to play on, and then booked a tee time for the 10th tee. This was all very amicably arranged, and seemed to work well.
Fariways were in excellent condition, as were the greens, even though they looked like they had just been spiked, they still rolled quite true, and were a good pace, although a couple of our fourball seemed to struggle to get the pace. Although there were no rakes, we were not told the bunkers were out of play, so we played those shots, and smoothed the sand as best we could. Most seemed to be well stocked with sand, but some recent rain left one or two a little compacted. The tees were really good as well, all very flat and cut to a good level (some places have not been due to green keepers only doing the basics). The rough looks like it could swallow lots of golf balls, but it was surprisingly whispy, and therefore easy to find the wayward or wind affected shots, and to play them most of the time. There are a few ponds around which did claim a number of balls from our fourball, although I managed to finish with the same ball, which helped towards 33 stableford points (including a poor finish of 1 point at each of the last 3 holes!)
We played as guests of a member, and are aware the cost would be ?25 midweek with a member, or ?40 without.
The clubhouse seemed to be fully open, although it was a nice enough day that most people were sitting outside. The Pro-shop was closed when we were there, so can't comment on prices etc for stock.
This was my first visit to play St Ives, although I did get measured at the Titleist Fitting Centre (based there) a few years ago. Looking forward to going back again, and we're already talking about going as early as next week.

Great Inland Links
Love St Ives, a true inland links style golf course maturing all the time. The new pond on the first is a great addition to what is already a great test of golf.
Wide open with all but 1 tree, this course can be open to the elements somewhat - so if you catch it on a windy day it can play really tough.
The improvements are being made all the time and this course will only get better.
Plays as tough in the summer as it does in the winter, but will drain well when wet.
All round a great test.

Very open and tricky course
Interesting course set in an open area. the greens are relatively quick in excellent condition. the fairways are cut in meandering shapes to add interest and test your course management. Recommended.(Round played: Sep 2017 - Score: 104 Handicap: 18.3)

Decent.
A lovely laid out inland links course with some really nice holes. The tee beds and greens were all in superb condition. Although the greens do have some large borrows on them at times. The bunkers were well sanded and in good order. A nice touch is that they are currently riveting them to give the place even more of a linksy feel.
There are some areas of the course through that are a bit tatty and threadbare where it doesn't look like they can get much grass growth.
The welcome in the clubhouse and from the pro's and members was excellent.
There is a small driving range which is really just for memebers and visitors.
I also had a driver and ball fitting in the Titleist fitting centre which was absolutely superb.
