The course played really well. The greens run very true, but they are well sculpted and offer a good challenge. Approaches don't hold in the dry weather, so plays very links like, Miss the narrow, fairways, with their well placed hazards and you are in for trouble. Lots of the bunkers are placed to catch the 250 yard plus drive and wayward approaches to green. The course was quite quiet on a late Sunday afternoon allowing for a good pace of play. Other players were very courteous allowing me through, when I caught them up. Not too hard for a reasonable score on a warm sunny day, but previous experience on wet windy winters day tell me some bad scores can be made here. I will definitely visit again.. A good challenge for all standards of player..

I last played St Ives about just over a year ago in the late summer so it was good to be back and see how the course has progressed.
It's still a very young course and provides a challenge to golfers at all levels. When it matures it will be an excellent couse. I went round with a member and it was good to hear about the work they are doing on the course. It looked like they had added drainage to the fairways and while we were out they were in the process of upgrading the bunk on the 10th and you could see that they had done quite a few other bunkers already.
What although the fairways themselve were firm and well drained, what dissapointed was the large areas of very wet ground, often on the walk between the tee and the fairway. They could do with putting in cart paths as these areas were tricky to negotiate.
The green are challenging to read and still excellent quality apart from the 2nd which was covered in rabbit droppings.
Overall this course is well recommended and has some of the best greens around Cambridge.

Always Getting Better

Still enjoy going back to St Ives for a game after all these years.

The courses always seems to get better, this time I found the fairways to be in great condition and the greens always seem to run really well.

When the wind picks up some hole can be a real test, but that mean when you are playing with the wind its a good chance to open and and have a bit of fun.

The water does come into play on a good handful of holes so keep a watch out for that.
17 and 18 are a great couple of holes to finish on.

Worth visiting

Whilst St Ives golf club was founded in the 1920's, this layout was only bought in 2007, and opened in 2010. It does however seem a lot more mature, although there is a distinct sparsity of trees. This makes the course seem quite open, but it has the advantage of making it difficult to play when the wind gets up.

Lockdown had just been eased when we played, so no rakes in bunkers, and the course was being started from the 10th tee. We didn't know this, so teed off at the 1st, and the pro-shop guy came out and we were allowed to play on, and then booked a tee time for the 10th tee. This was all very amicably arranged, and seemed to work well.

Fariways were in excellent condition, as were the greens, even though they looked like they had just been spiked, they still rolled quite true, and were a good pace, although a couple of our fourball seemed to struggle to get the pace. Although there were no rakes, we were not told the bunkers were out of play, so we played those shots, and smoothed the sand as best we could. Most seemed to be well stocked with sand, but some recent rain left one or two a little compacted. The tees were really good as well, all very flat and cut to a good level (some places have not been due to green keepers only doing the basics). The rough looks like it could swallow lots of golf balls, but it was surprisingly whispy, and therefore easy to find the wayward or wind affected shots, and to play them most of the time. There are a few ponds around which did claim a number of balls from our fourball, although I managed to finish with the same ball, which helped towards 33 stableford points (including a poor finish of 1 point at each of the last 3 holes!)

We played as guests of a member, and are aware the cost would be ?25 midweek with a member, or ?40 without.

The clubhouse seemed to be fully open, although it was a nice enough day that most people were sitting outside. The Pro-shop was closed when we were there, so can't comment on prices etc for stock.

This was my first visit to play St Ives, although I did get measured at the Titleist Fitting Centre (based there) a few years ago. Looking forward to going back again, and we're already talking about going as early as next week.

Great condition as always!

I do visit St Ives about 8 or 9 times a year as it gives me a nice break from the parkland courses I'm used to playing.

St Ives can be really forgiving when the rough is down, a inland links in every sense. You can go offline from the tee and still have a shot, as long as you have avoided the water hazards.

The greens are getting better and better each time I visit and I always see work being carried out to improve the course - this time on some of the bunkers.

Over the years the course has matured and got better and better.

It is very open to the elements so if windy you can expect a tough game, but that's all part of the fun!

Superb inland links course. Well worth visiting

Despite the baking hot weather scorching the fairways - which were like concrete - the course played remarkably well. The greens were in good condition and well watered and the rough, whilst being penal in places was harsh but fair. Just loved the layout of this well designed course and it was a pleasure to play. The club is friendly and my only gripe was that there was no hot food available, but with the weather being so hot, maybe no bad thing! Highly recommended

Golfshake Team ReviewLovely inland links style golf course that is fairly new and still maturing in places but has come on heaps in the 3/4 years I have been playing it.

There are some really tough holes that can play extremely long if into wind but you can have some real fun on the holes that play downwind.

As you'd expect with inland links the main thing to watch out for is the rough if its been allowed to grow.

Greens are in a much better condition now than what they were 2/3 years ago and I love the fact that this place seems to get better on each visit.

Played January 15 being my 1st visit and this is certainly a course I want to play again at the start of the season. Fairways and greens and possibly the best I've played on this winter. Pro shop staff very friendly. I'd recommend a visit to this course for anyone.

This is an extremly challaging course when windy as it was for my first game here today. There are hazards very well placed to catch you out. The greens are true but have plenty on contours making them tricky to read on the long putts. The fairways are some of the best I have come across this year very lush. The rough can be punishing if or when you get into it. Overall one of the best courses I have played this year, a real gem of a find.

One of the only courses open in the area so that is a positive. Pretty good condition considering the recent weather. Didn't see all the facilities. Look forward to playing the course when it is warmer.

played the course today on a twighlight round, with a bit of wind up, and a fair bit of sunshine, and i have to say, apart from a couple of fairways with drainage marks, and some of the greens needing a little bit of tlc(although they run very true), the course is great, really interesting layout, with some real testing holes,9 and 14 especially, and most make you think off the tee, you cant just reach straight for the driver, which given the length(i played off the yellows at 6566 yards) makes the course even tougher. good course, given a couple of year could be a blining example of this newest of course styles, the inland links. can't wait to go back.

Golfshake Team ReviewReally enjoyed this course.

It's had work done recently and there are marks on the fairway where they have sorted the drainage. Like when any course has work its always for the best so don't let this out you off.
Also it's a young course so still needs to mature here and there but really enjoyable.

Very wide and open which means if your a higher handicapper you will pretty much still have some kind of shot even if your drives aren't too straight.

If you catch this course in the evening it can also provide some stunning views.
