Huge improvement!
I recently played this course after a break of around 18 months. There have been huge improvements during this period, both in terms of the course and clubhouse. The clubhouse now sports a wraparound balcony with lovely views. The greens are now well kept and free of the leather jacket infestation that left them terribly patchy and brown. The fairways are well looked after too. Just needs some work on the tee boxes and bunkers. The course is very challenging in parts and conservative club selection is required! Great value at £16!Reviewer Rating

On its way back
Just back from playing Shirland (as a 19hc non-member)Fairways and rough were fine, and bunkers "ok"
SO THE GREENS.....after recent comments/posts I didnt know what to expect, but they were "ok" 6/10. Obviously being worked on. For social golf with generous "gimmies" - no problem. If putting for dough, maybe give them a while.
Course was relatively quiet and maybe "green issue" is being reflected, but for ?16 it is still a good deal in my opinion.
New clubhouse being built so limited indoor areas. Marquees set up for "the 19th"

Well worth the visit
Really enjoyable course. Greens are not very good as the lockdown and insect infestation and brilliant weather have caused some damage but still playableReviewer Rating

Poor Condition
Played here on Saturday 6th. Got charged ?17.50 which is expensive as usually sneak on for around a tenner. However not being a member and current situation being what it is we thought it was fair. However the course is in poor condition making it expensive. The greens are ruined. Either through the weather or they are burnt with feeding or moss killing. Making them bumpy, slow and unreadable.Reviewer Rating

Course has been neglected, i will not be returning.
I played here last saturday. Driving on ‘pot hole lane’ entrance into the carpark i was surprised my car wasnt damaged. What was once a fun tricky course to play has turned into a bad, neglected field. The fairways and rough were too long, hardly and sand in all the bunkers, all the greens were brown and rock hard and look like they Hadn't had and water atall and were left to die, i wouldn't recommend playing here if it was free, totally gone downhill since i last played at the start of the year.Reviewer Rating

Excellent Course. Worth a try.
We played here on sat 21st march 2020. The course as always is in very good condition for the time of year and past weather. An excellent placed out course with some great holes but beware the hills. The 10th onward's are pretty much up and down and quite steep on some holes. We all live closer to other clubs but one of our guys had a heart attack in Nov 2019 so needs a buggy. I have a dodgy knee which is fine when walking flat course's but the hill's kill me.This is where the down side kicks in. Because of the current climate they are issuing buggies but one man per buggy BUT still charging ?20 !!!. I explained that we had driven 45 mins together in a car so surely there is no difference. ?. I was told nope that the deal at the mo and that's it. Kinda left us with no option as it was a 45 min drive and were not gonna get anywhere else at such short notice. I understand they have costs etc to get back from the buggies , but it still felt like they were profiteering from us as we had no choice. Other than that well done Chesterton a great course in good nick , work on the greens could be done but at this time of year well done guys.Reviewer Rating

Greens terrible, we won't be back
Having heard lots of good things about this course, we visited in number and found it a real disappointment. Grass on the fairways and tees was long, the tees were damaged and not level and the greens ... well ... terrible. Not level, long grass, looked uncared for ... but it may be that there has been some sort of disease ... but if so, let groups know so they can decided to cancel or offer a discount or explanation. We all know things happen on courses which is beyond human control, just be honest and talk about it. Loved the 8th, my favourite hole.Reviewer Rating
