The courses are getting worse and the management don't seem to do anything useful.
The bunkers are dreadful, even some of the ones with new sand are full of grass ad weeds. The greens are being serviced and are very poor (which is a shame because they used to be one of the few good things about the courses). There seems to be a real lack of ground staff so maintenance is the minimum required. With the new club house it i a shame that Glendale seem to be driving this into the ground.

I have played at least 10 other courses in Surrey in past two months and Richmond Park now ranks as the worst courses i the county. It is only because it is so near to where I live that I play here.

Social Golf

Two small courses with a fair layout for the cost. Greens are well kept considering the volume of wear by fair weather golfers.
Princes will give you a quick round first thing in the morning. Our three ball went round in 3 hours.
Dukes can often be much slower with a few minutes wait at each tee. Nevertheless you should comfortably get round within 4 hours with a morning tee.

You can see they have spent some money on the club house but the course is in a transitional phase. They could do with cutting the rough as it is very deep. Lucky it was a free round other wise I'd ask for my money back !!!

I have played this Golf Course twice in the last 2 years each time i leave swearing never to go back! Booking a Tee time here does not seem to matter as when yo get to the 1st Tee box you will be behind 2 or 3 groups all waiting to Tee off. As previous Poster has said GET A STARTER!! The last time i was there there was 3 guys behind the club house counter 2 chatting and 1 serving, i got out to the 1st Tee and 4 groups were waiting to Tee off, Sort it out Richmond. I will never play this course again, drive 20 mins further and you have a whole host of better quality and more importantly better organised golf courses.

Played the course on Sat 2 Feb 2014. The course at present is under renovation / new clubhouse / driving range etc so some disruption is to be expected. The current layout is a composite of the old Dukes and Princes courses, using the driest parts of each course. The weather was great and considering we booked an 8am tee time we expected a good run at it, however, not to be. Upon arriving we were told by the guy behind the counter that things were a bit slow. I questioned him as to how this could be at 8am with tee times every 8 minutes but his blank expression said it all. My main issue with this course is the exact same I had the last time I played there last summer after which I said I’d never go back. The course needs a STARTER. Last summer we arrived on the first tee box to be met with 5 groups waiting to tee off, on a sort of a first come first severed basis regardless of actual tee times booked. That day it took over 5 hours to play the most excruciatingly painful round of my life. I thought it couldn’t be as bad again but it was just the same. The current first is a drivable par 4, bad idea for starters as unless you’re pretty short you’ll have to wait until the green clears. There was a 4 ball on the green, a two ball on the fairway (what looked like 100 yard drives each, a long day in store), a 2 ball & 3 ball on the tee box, and us (2 ball). Start times of 8 minutes apart should be perfectly fine to keep things moving. However, when you let people to their own devices this becomes chaos. 2 balls need to be paired up with each other and they need a starter, at least in the morning to set the trend for the day. The course does attract a lot of novices which is fine as long as proper etiquette is adhered to which I’m afraid is not the case on this course as the tone is set by management. On the plus side the greens were pretty good and dry considering the recent weather. I’d advise anyone who wishes to keep their sanity to avoid this place and head into Surrey where the courses are far superior for roughly the same price.

Dear management,
Stop being so arrogant, stop being money driven, start caring about your customers and, above all, start following a tee-time booking system.

I played the course 4-5 times last year and never finished under 5 hours. I agreed to play with a friend and give you another chance this weekend, nothing has changed.

We walked off the course after 3 hours having played 8 holes. 20mins waiting on each tee box is ridiculous. At one point 5 groups were all playing the same hole.
This time I am never going back.

Definitely Worth a Visit

I'm a member of the golf club affiliated to this public course situated in the Royal Park so that should tell you I enjoy it. There are two courses - the easier, shorter but more undulating Princes and the longer, tougher but flatter Dukes. Both are in decent nick considering the amount of use they get. Both have recently benefitted from extensive work on their drainage systems. The clubhouse (with its living roof) offers a good selection of food and drink and there's a large outdoor area for the summer months. With green fees starting at around ?30 it's definitely good value for money and only a few miles from central London.

Greens - so good!

Hadn't played here for a couple of years but revived memories of very many games over the years on a course where I first ever played. Did a ?twilight? on a glorious summer evening - so enjoyable. The rough is up currently so keeping in-play an absolute must. Once on the greens so impressive considering the footfall on Richmond Park golf courses. OK - so there are unrepaired pitch marks occasionally but these are courses to learn the game and etiquette and to grow to love the game of golf. Will be returning soon for sure.

London course - Very Average

Not many courses in London as green space is highly sought after and quite a flat city. Course is fairly expensive in my opinion, especially for what it is. Can get a much better matained challengign course with water and elevation a further 20 min drive outside of London. But this place remains very popular due to being one of the only pay and play's in the area. Just don't expect much. Play was very slow too. Lots of people learning golf, which is great, but causes a long wait. Rough is thick and swallows golf balls. Lots of people looking for golf balls.

Great public gold course

Richmond Park Golf has two 18-holes courses of which one is a bit longer and flater while the other is a bit shorter but more up and down. Fairways are rain dependent so in peak of summer become brown. I play there as it is easy to get a t-time and very convenient to play. The staff is fantastic. Fairways a bit wider than some private golf courses so good for people like me who are not so good.

Wet and Windy

We had our society day at Richmond Park and played the Dukes Course.
Clubhouse is pretty new I believe but not very pretty!! Staff were polite and helpful. Small shop for golf essentials. Food good. Course was well used but in decent condition apart from the tractor tyre marks near the greens. Greenkeepers take more care!! Greens in good condition. We played on a wet day and the greens had a fair bit of surface water which was frustrating. Not sure the drainage is all it could be. Course is flat and very open with forgiving fairways. Greens are sometimes small but receptive and well kept.
