the Golf Club founded by the councillors and officers of the former Tonbridge Urban District Council who provided this outstandingly beautiful 18 hole course (designed by the world famous course architect Fred Hawtree -educated at Tonbridge school) to enable all to play the game at a time when membership of Golf Clubs was difficult to attain (See Capt. Mainwaring). The additional nine hole course was designed by his son. The Club is affiliated to the English and the Ladies Golf Unions and awards handicaps and has a strong presence in Kent golf - with a program of matches with other clubs and having an impressive array of trophies and triumphs which can be seen in the splendid comfortable Club House where the reception, welcome and food are first class - the envy of many other clubs and where the first class tuition and practice facilities are available to all comers and where there are also squash courts available by Anon, posted by Golfshake.com

To be honest it's hard to find fault with this. If you're a card holder it's £14 mid-week and £20 at the weekend. The course is a thinking man's course and if you just want to get the Driver out you'll soon be in trouble. The woods hems you in and tee and fapproach shots need to be precise. The 4th is a birdieable par 5 (in Summer) and the 6th has one of those pins that always seems miles away!. The outward nine seem harder than those after the turn except for the 17th and 18th which are quite capable of adding a total of 10 to your card if you are not careful. Always a challenge and normally in good nick (apart from a tendency to bog in the depths of winter - but where doesn't?) Poult Wood will give you a good run for a rather small amount of Money.

Would gladly play here again. Super course in great condition and although we played off the winter mats, it was still a joy. Never seen such fantastic winter mats. It was like playing on astro turf.
