Hugely overrated
A tremendously average course. Nothing particularly special about the layout, or the condition, especially when considering the price. Also, the pace of play was abysmal, not a single four ball in sight and 4+ hours, shocking. The majority of the members seem to think they're better than everyone because of the "status" of the club, which for me it nowhere near deserves. I guarantee you could easily spend half as much and find a more enjoyable/better course to play.Reviewer Rating

Gone Downhill
I used to play this course often and tried to join butbthe waiting list was too long (up to 7 years!). Unfortunately, in the last 5-10 years, the course has gotten steadily worse, both in condition (inconsistent greens...) and opening up through temoving trees. \\It has lost somewhat that feel of being on the course by yourself in your group which was special. I don’t know whether it’s a greens issue or a difficulty issue, but the affect has been to make a tricky, interesting course for scratch +/-3, to a less fulfilling experience.\\High handicappers are happier with the easier course but still preferred the ‘old course’, the older ones who remember, anyway. They aren’t happy with the trees being cut as it’s more open. The greens never needed such radical change to be excellent. I played in the Open regional qualifiers and they were a dream, even when wet.\\A lot of money has been spent I hear, but on the evidence, not well. Hopefully they have a long term vision as the setting will, always be supreme.\\I really liked this course and it’s sad it has gone this way.Reviewer Rating

Not what I thought it would be like.
Surprisingly this is a past open qualifying venue but for some reason the past 2 times I have been the greens have been really bobbly and inconsistent. The bunkers looked like they have just been forgot about which is not how they should be maintained. The drainage is another issue aswel. Very surprised to be honest I bet the members are really annoyed at the price they have to pay aswel. The only good thing is the layout this could be a really good course with proper work done to it. Also range was shut when I went so only had a net to hit a couple of shots into.Reviewer Rating

The course looked terrible and played worse. It looked like heavy machinery had been driving down the fairways and the whole course looked in dire need of some major repairs. I was given a flyer with the subs on it. £1150 for a year? They have got to be kidding that is major course fees not a course that looked and played awful. Bunkers were not raked properly, fairways had thatch all over them, tees - not one level.I agreed with my partners, probably the best course scenically but we come to play golf not take pictures. Pleasington looks like it has been resting on past glories and got an apprentice to look after the course to save money.
The catering was almost inedible, in fact we all left our food, not good

Not convinced
Always referred to as one of the best courses in the North West, but for me it doesn't deserve the hype. Never had a decent welcome in the pro shop ; the course has some forgettable holes (3, 11 & 17 as examples) and it's over priced. Clubhouse great and the welcome in the bar has always been great, but the course just doesn't blow me away.Reviewer Rating

Enjoyable experience
The round started with a few frustrations- i put my head around the door of the shop and it seems to have become a practice studio. So I went to play. I waited a few moments after my tee off time as there were two players ahead- both playing two balls, as it turned out- the first two holes took almost 30 minutes by which time I was caught up by the group behind. The course always looks good- it seems the rough is a little more forgiving than it has been. On the downside, quite a few of the greens offer bobbly putting and seem to be inconsistent when it comes to speed from hole to hole. A number had sand on- one of my putts turned almost 90 degrees through sand!
Fairly busy on a beautiful Monday- but once the two juniors gave up it was a good pace of play.
With the condition of the greens, the full price green fee would be at least heading towards 'poor value' especially considering the excellence of greens at some other local courses for substantially less expense.

Great Course
Pleasington has been on my 'to play' list for a while now but I was slightly reluctant due to the, fairly, high price and negative reviews which I had read. However, I now regret not playing it sooner. The course is fantastic. The greens were immaculate, some of the scenery (especially on the front 9) was breathtaking and the layout provided a fun yet challenging test of golf. Other than the fact that I played the first 5 holes like someone who'd never swung a golf club before, I'm struggling to think of anything negative to say. I'll definitely play it again and, now I know the course somewhat, hopefully I'll play a little bit better. I highly recommend.Reviewer Rating

Played from white tees, didn't go into clubhouse which looked nice from the outside. Course is not overly long of particularly difficult, its defence largely in narrowish fairways and the greens which are not small but were in good condition and I suspect are quite quick and tricky in the dry. Lots of changes in elevation on parts of the course which is set in great scenery. Be prepared for a number of blind tee shots (a pet peeve of mine) which are a pain on first time of playing, especially the par 5 7th where i hit a drive straight at the marker post and lost the ball when 2 it needed a hybrid. Fairways and bunkers all in good nick, rough lush but fine.
I'm a member elsewhere and enjoyed the round but I'd say 3 things about paying a green fee as a member, only one of which is about this club.
1. I was allowed to play from the white tees but asked to play the par 3s from the yellows when there seemed ti be no good reason for that. This can only be because they want to preserve the white tees for comps (uo yours, visitors)
2. Even though it's the going rate, £50 is still a lot for 4 hours of golf on a decent golf course. This isn't Pleasington's fault and they probably don't need the money as much as some but this will price out many.
3. The club has a blue tee set but I wasn't given the opportunity to play from it. As a cat 2 golfer I'm not going to chew the course up and in 2020 more clubs need to be providing all their tee sets for competent visitors. I know this isn't a popular view but this needs to change.
4/5. Enjoyed my day and the course which I'd happily play again. 1 point deducted for being made to play from yellow tees on the par 3s.

Nice course, great greens.
Visited Pleasington for the first time early Jan. Nice varied mix of holes and surprisingly undulated course. The greens were very good, the Par 3s deserve mention as they were all very good. Not the warmest of welcomes from the young lad in the pro shop who was more interested in playing games on his phone than welcoming visitors!Reviewer Rating

Wet but good
A fantastically laid out golf course with some challenging blind shots & a couple of quirky holes (You definitely need someone who knows the course first time round). It probably misses a really challenging par 3, but overall very good.It was very wet, but I thought the greens were pretty good considering. Only 1 winter green.
The welcome from the pro's, the staff & the members was excellent & the steak pie after the game was superb.
The weather & the conditions spoiled the game, but I'd like to see this course in the summer.

A great course with some stunning views and a couple of stunning holes. The scenery from the 14th tee is breath taking. There are blind tee shots and drivable par 4s. The par 5 alongside the train track is a great hole demanding an accurate shot off the tee.
