Great course with some tricky greens

My first visit and I will go back as the course is a gem. The layout has some interesting holes the 4th and 16th spring to mind. There are elevation changes on most holes and even the shorter par 4's are a challenge with some serious slopes on the greens which are true and fast and some of the best I've played this year, or in any year.

Course was quite wet in place despite the sunny weather, some of the greens were half dry and the ball ran well the other half was wet and the ball had little run.

Fantastic golf club. You always get a warm welcome in the Pro Shop and also from the Managers Office. Great catering staff and clubhouse. The course is interesting and as a novice golfer it offers a real challenge. The greens are in fantastic condition and not flat and some of the holes are unusual! Hole 4 stands out for me... Such fun. The bunkers are in good condition and over winter the course looks to have played well. I enjoy this golf club a lot and the staff and members make it welcoming.

I've been a member since April last year. Tried about 10 local courses and this was by far the best. If you're looking for somewhere to be a member or just a good round then you should visit.

The Tankerdale Lane course at Petersfield is the main 18 hole course and it offers a good challenge to mid-low handicap whilst also being an encouraging place to play if you're playing off 24-28. It is a thinkers course and caution is often rewarded while a smack it and see will work on some holes. The 4th offers a drivable green if you can keep the ball straight and a makable par if you choose to drive and chip on. Throughout the year the course is playable and is kept in a very good condition, though the rough can be brutal in the summer. Off the fairways the best strategy is to get the ball back in play with a chip onto the short stuff. No heroics!

Some of the bunkers are in need of a bit more sand but none are unplayable, though some may require more than one attempt to get out of!

The clubhouse does a good range of food and drinks and it is a good place to host a four ball or two.

I've recently started playing here with a friend who has only just started golf. It's 12 holes which is perfect from a time point of view. It is not a long course but it's design layout is good.

Nice round at a welcoming club

Played here on the way to Portsmouth to catch a ferry. Lovely day although a little windy. Tees were fine and greens in good condition. Nice selection of varied par fours, where length was far less important than position and some decent par fives. Par threes were short off the yellows. The one decent length par 3 had a blind tee shot. Better hole as a par 4 off the whites. Welcoming pro-shop although bar/restaurant staff weren’t as helpful as they could have been as they were busy (half hour wait for a cold sandwich to take out on the course) Good warm up facilities. Pace of play was an issue. There’s enough fairway and light rough if you can hit the ball reasonably straight but those who tend to hit the ball further off line will find themselves in the deep stuff. We followed two groups like this and although they called us through eventually it still added up to 4 hours for a two-ball. Not the club’s fault (there really is enough space for the average golfer to get round) but it only takes one group of below average golfers to hold up the day. Not a course I’d make a pilgrimage for but one I’d play again if I was in the area.

Overall, I’d say it’s short, fun and great greens.

Excellent

This course is amazing, set in rolling countryside every hole offers different challenges. If your fit the walk is tiring so would suggest a trolley for the not so fit. Clubhouse is amazing and the staff are very friendly. Will definetly be going back

Lovely course,parkland, impeccable greens

I played on a scorching hot day. I played the best golf I have ever played, so this review may be favourably biased. Shotgun start from 16th. Holes were varied, greens consistent ; not super fast, but not slow. No water. A few bunkers. A couple of feature holes. Will definitely re-visit.

They've let the rough grow too long and there could/should actually be some more sand in the bunkers!
