Probably not at its best

Played on a cold winter day. Some areas frozen on greens and bunkers. Course is still recovering from dry, hot summer. My poor performance probably didn't help my opinion.

Mill Hill is an interesting course that requires a lot of thought. Very much a precision rather than power course, none of the holes are particularly long but are guarded by ravines across the fairways, requiring in some cases a mid-iron off the tee. A good player can leave his woods at home and knock it round in 75 without much effort. There are a couple of very nice holes (the tenth being particularly good) but there are a few too many characterless par fours. The tree lined nature of the course means you don't really have any rough, fairways (a little overgrown today), semi rough then tree.

The condition was slightly disappointing - i played after a very wet week, but the greens were spongy and very slow. The bunkers were shallow and not particularly well placed.

It is quite well known that the round starts by walking through a subway under the A1. Not the end of the world, although slightly annoying. Worse is the traffic noise in the background - it fades from consciousness at times, but it doesn't create the relaxing "getting away from it" atmosphere that many seek from golf.

Overall, a decent course, fun to play, but largely forgettable.

Course under significant maintenance work. One of the holes was closed. Very enjoyable from 5th onwards. £30 fair rate. Clubhouse separated from course is a put off. Overall ok

Not played at the course for 20 yrs. Has matured a lot in that time. Course was , in general, in good condition. Very damp in places but did not affect general play. Even the bunkers had been recently raked. This was a society day. We were treated very well by staff both in the bar and restaurant.

Good course, with some enjoyable holes

Enjoyed playing Mill Hill. Recent weather meant the course was in a broadly dry condition but played well. Rough cut down so wide fairways/rough to hit, and greens were overall good (3 were being grown out and were spongy). Tee boxes were mostly good and flat and overall course was in reasonable nick. The bunker lack sand, but less of an issue during Covid given free drop.

Would play again. Reasonable value for money.

Last putt before Lockdown

Putting out on the 18th after sunset we were very grateful to have completed a final round for who knows how long. Let's hope soon. It hardly seems fair to be too critical during these times but I'm looking forward to going back when the greens & especially the fairways might get the attention they deserve
