What the club says: The Course is situated on Matlock Moor, about one and a half miles North of Matlock on the Chesterfield Road, rising to 850 feet above sea level. Designed and laid out in 1907 by that famous Professional, the late Tom Williamson, the course generally speaking, calls for accuracy rather than long hitting.
Bentley Brook meanders through the course to give special interest on several holes and the undulating moorland, with its trees, heather, ravines and gullies, provides for a very interesting and testing round of golf, enhanced by superb views down the Derwent Valley.

Fantastic
Played Matlock last week as a visitor. From the time of booking I had a feeling that this is going to be a great day, as the welcome information beforehand was very good.
On arrival I checked in at the pro shop and the assistant pro welcomed us explained a few things and after a lovely hot drink in the clubhouse away we went.
Now I have done the rounds, so to speak being a mature golfer, but never played Matlock.
From the opening hole to the last I can say that if this was a football team then this would be in the top 6 of the premier league.
Only reason it’s not a top 4 is the distance from home just over 1.5 hours, but will definitely be back hopefully again this year.
If you’re a proper golfer and would like a challenge to see if your game is where you want it to be, then go and play Matlock.
Fantastic

Great for mid handicapper
Played early morning after a big downpour the previous evening. Tees were immaculate, greens a bit bumpy because they had been treated the previous week. That was reflected in the great price of ?25. It didn't affect our putting much! Fairways were nice with good lies. Some 'relatively easy? par 4?s around the 300 yard distance. Bunkers looked good. A bit hilly so for someone getting on a bit it could be tiring. All round very enjoyableReviewer Rating

Love the improved bunkering
Played on a scorching hot day with baked and hard fairways. Shots to the fairway that were slightly off line were heavily punished. Greens excellent, as usual. Great society venue.Reviewer Rating

Great golf course
Love the recent improvements and enhancements to the bunkers and layout. Taking it back to its original form is a superb idea and is being delivered by a great greenkeeping team. Tom Williamson designs are common in the Midlands as he created many of them. Matlock is now moving up this list as a top quality golfing venue. Like the recent clubhouse enhancements as well.Reviewer Rating

Wow !!
The last time I visited Matlock was before COVID and even then I thought it was a beautiful course, but the recent changes have transformed this into a really spectacular golf club, the course has moved towards a more natural heathland design in keeping with the natural surroundings, a new bunker program has delivered beautifully sculpted hazards that await any unsuspecting golfer and the greens are the best I have played on anywhere this year, they really are a pleasure to putt on. Matlock is a fantastic test of golf with a great range of holes and some stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The club house has had a big overhaul and now is a much more modern and welcoming environment for a drink after, if you haven’t played Matlock before or if you haven’t been for a while get yourself down there you won’t be disappointedReviewer Rating

great condition despite the heatwave
played yesterday. Throughly enjoyable golfing experience. Hard fast fairways gave extra run to the tee ball but the greens were lush and true. This course requires a strategic plan off the tee as it can be penal if you are off line. Some challenging short holes again needing careful play due to the baked condition of the course. Food etc and clubhouse welcome were excellent as usual.Reviewer Rating

Lovely lay out, worth a visit !
On my mission to have played 200 courses in my life, my pal and I visited this course in October 2020 mid coronavirus issues. The greens had been under maintenance prior to our round so the channels on the greens made for some fun putts but maintenance has to be done, so I can't knock the course for that and they reduced the fee accordingly. The course has a really interesting layout with some lovely outlooks across valleys to castles and other viewing points. Every hole different and a relatively easy course with open fairways in and around undulating hills, valleys and streams. Some great greens and reachable par 5?s. Only thing I would say is that some tee off points are very close to greens and in case crossed one another, I find it hard to hit towards people even if they are on another tee, maybe that's just me. But the course is lovely and the food afterwards was top notch too. Watch out for the very thick trees in front of the 18th green where my mates ball still remains to this day !Reviewer Rating

Peak District Beauty
played off the tips with the club Vice Captain as his guest. Lockdown provisions fully in place but felt reassuringly safe throughout. The course is in superb condition and has had a number of cosmetic changes made to the first tee box area. Designed by Tom Williamson. Hollinwell and Longcliffe fame and the layout make great use of the available footprint. There are some jaw-dropping views and vistas available from a range of positions across the courses. The greens and surrounds were in superb order played fast and true. I know the clubhouse and the service is usually excellent however many staff are currently furloughed but my marks on based on several previous visits.this is an excellent course for the visiting golfer. Well worth a visit. The new practice range facilities are well sued but need to be booked prior to arrival.Reviewer Rating

Course in very good condition. They only have distance markers in the middle of the fairway - you are lost for distance especially if you are a visitor. A very strange setup regarding buggies - they had four and now non is available? All the other clubs around have buggies and are sanitised with out any problem.....?(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 89 Handicap: 16.1)

Stunning Views
I really enjoyed my visit to Matlock.Felt like a shorter course but the layout of some of the holes means that it is still very challenging.
The views on the back 9 in particular were superb also.
Its fairly forgiving from the tee as long as you're not crazy offline. The general condition of the course was fantastic too.
Really enjoyable round of golf.
