Needs some TLC

Positives first; it's good value for money, pretty quiet, and it's a really well designed layout. You can't just blast it with a driver, and it'll take two or three goes round (or a playing partner who knows the course) before you can plot your way round wisely. The greens are usually tight at the front and become generous towards the back, the design uses water intelligently - whoever laid this out did a good job.

Now, that said....

This course reeks of neglect. The conditioning is really poor; the fairways are full of weeds, and tufty grass. If you told me the fairway grass cutting was done by a flock of sheep, only the lack of dung would make me think you were kidding. Much of the fairway feels like the first cut of rough, and from the tee, it's pretty difficult to see where the fairway ends and the rough starts. If you've time, Google Maps satellite view is helpful.

The greens are clearly well-made (USGA-spec, apparently), but glacially slow. It's a shame, because they look lovely. At least the bunker sand is decent thickness and quality.

It's a really good layout - there are two Par 4's that could tempt those who drive 250 yards to have a go for the green, and will make them pay the penalty if they get it wrong. Fairways pinch at the right distances to make you think about strategy, some of the rough is punitive and keeps you honest... it could be really good.

The course has some great views, by the standards of far west London; you can see for several miles. The A40 can only be glimpsed in a few places, but you won't escape its sound; you can hear it everywhere, and a slice on one hole will hit the carriageway.

I really wanted to like this course. The owners also have the Shire north of London, they're building a new 18 hole over the road from this course, and have a Pete Dye course underway somewhere like Barnet. That's all well and good - I like that some people are still investing in golf - but they've taken their eye right off the ball here. The state of this track doesn't make me feel enthusiastic about shelling out for the Shire - heavily plugged in the "clubhouse", or their forthcoming courses.

In the car park, you can't fail to notice the "dinosaur" crazy golf, which is crowded with families at weekends and in school holidays, and there's a soft-play area in the main building. I suspect that's where the money is made here, and that's where the attention is going; while I played, the crazy golf course was having renovations.

Pity; a missed opportunity.

I visited this course for the first time today and I must say I'm seriously disappointed. It is a very unfriendly atmosphere here and has killed my mood.

The guy at reception met my smile and good morning with a monosyllabic grunt. I ignored this and bought 100 balls and paid 12.50 for 9 holes.

After hitting my balls and a bit of chipping practice, I went back in to leave my extra bag in a locker and play.

Unfortunately they don't have any! Very strange for a place of this size. When I asked for my money back I was told STRICTLY NO REFUNDS he gave me a voucher. However I don't want to ever come back here.

When I saw the range I thought I had come to the wrong place. Where are the auto tees? Unless there's another bit which the guy didn't tell me abut, which wouldn't surprise me.

Wouldn't come again If'd you paid me, awful, unfriendly place

Was really looking forward to this course and travelled two hours to play by public transport however and through no fault of their own it was extremely foggy at the course. Was told they were busy so there was no waiting around. Visibility must have been about 40 yards so knowing where you were going, whose in front of you were v difficult. Maybe get some yardage markers. Sadly I couldn't say anything about the course as I honestly didn't see it.

Interesting layout. Very different to the other courses in surrounding area. Shame its only a 9 hole place and that there is no changing rooms. Could have done with the fairways being watered.

9 hole twice but good condition

great greens, the fact you have to play same 9 holes twice is not as bad seeing the white tees are very different from the blues making it seem like a completely new hole.
