Nicely tuck away above Lewes

Interesting layout above Lewes. Not the easiest to find or arrive at. Very warm welcome from pro and very informative. Course itself as this was my first visit difficult to gage. The greens were fast and undulating and in very good condition. The tees were well rotated and seeding provided at all par 3's. As there are plenty of public footpath need to be vigilent of walkers coming around the corner. Fairways not the best but considering the chalk features not too bad. A bit scraped up in places. Will definitely play again...oh and not for the feint hearted. Plenty of slopes and borrows to deal with.

Wish I'd found it earlier. It's a gem!

I'm a 71-year-old 18 handicapper and played it for the first time this week with my son. It was seriously windy, but this just added to the enjoyment. I wish I'd found it 20 years ago! Great welcome from the pro who also gave good advice and on a Sunday afternoon, we basically had the course to ourselves. Like all old courses, it's a bit quirky and the designer certainly knew all about the prevailing winds and where to put the bunkers. Again, the smallish greens are indicative of their age and in most cases they require a run in rather than a high shot, but the original contours make for some interesting putts. On most holes there's plenty of room for the odd wayward shot, but avoid the bunkers - they're brutal and coming out sideways can often be the best option. It's not a particularly difficult course to walk, undulating rather than hilly, and I managed fine with an electric trolley. I had a bad front 9 (three to get out of one bunker which i hadn't even seen from the tee) scoring 51, but a 43 on the back 9, considering the high winds, wasn't too bad. I will definitely return and improve on that on a calmer day. The tightest drive of the day is the one up the hill to the course itself. There weren't many cars in Lewes when this course opened, so take care and the time to enjoy the quaint properties on the way in. Lewes, you don't just have good beer - you have great golf. Thank you.

Beautiful backdrop and a very enjoyable course

Decided to visit Lewes as had heard it drains very well in wet weather and have been frustrated by other courses understandably being quite ready after all the wet weather. We were so impressed. The course was in great condition, with firm greens that were fun and challenging! If you like your golf with stunning views and thought provoking greens this is the place. We will be back soon!
Only gripe was that the club house was closed when we had finished at 8pm on a hot sunny day!

Great views of sussex

Excellent elevated course on the Sussex downs. Playable all year round. The weather makes a difference here due to its elevated position and can change your round in an instance.

Well drained and great greens

Played as a Society on Sunday - keeping in mind the Course was shut just a week ago with heavy snowfall, the course was in great condition and the green in excellent condition.
A good challenge for all handicaps

This is a hidden gem. It has spectacular views over lewes and the Sussex countryside, something that few courses near here offer. Best time to play this course is early morning or early evening.

The front 7 holes are relatively straight forward however the remaining holes can be exceptionally difficult with the prevailing wind. Greens are always in impeccable condition and are really fast.

This course is an absolute bargain and offers so much more than a round of golf.

Fantastic and well kept course

First time at Lewes GC and what a gem of a course and 360 degree panoramic views to match. Testing 18 holes but very enjoyable and test of skill. Straight shots onto these fairways often don't work. Greens are true and in superb condition.
