This downland course is such a good test of your golf game, not prticularly long but shot placement is so important. Do you go for the green or drop it short and let it run on? The greens are excellent and always faster than you think! Fantastic views and good food and drink in the clubhouse make this a must play course if you are in the area.

Nicely tuck away above Lewes

Interesting layout above Lewes. Not the easiest to find or arrive at. Very warm welcome from pro and very informative. Course itself as this was my first visit difficult to gage. The greens were fast and undulating and in very good condition. The tees were well rotated and seeding provided at all par 3's. As there are plenty of public footpath need to be vigilent of walkers coming around the corner. Fairways not the best but considering the chalk features not too bad. A bit scraped up in places. Will definitely play again...oh and not for the feint hearted. Plenty of slopes and borrows to deal with.

Wish I'd found it earlier. It's a gem!

I'm a 71-year-old 18 handicapper and played it for the first time this week with my son. It was seriously windy, but this just added to the enjoyment. I wish I'd found it 20 years ago! Great welcome from the pro who also gave good advice and on a Sunday afternoon, we basically had the course to ourselves. Like all old courses, it's a bit quirky and the designer certainly knew all about the prevailing winds and where to put the bunkers. Again, the smallish greens are indicative of their age and in most cases they require a run in rather than a high shot, but the original contours make for some interesting putts. On most holes there's plenty of room for the odd wayward shot, but avoid the bunkers - they're brutal and coming out sideways can often be the best option. It's not a particularly difficult course to walk, undulating rather than hilly, and I managed fine with an electric trolley. I had a bad front 9 (three to get out of one bunker which i hadn't even seen from the tee) scoring 51, but a 43 on the back 9, considering the high winds, wasn't too bad. I will definitely return and improve on that on a calmer day. The tightest drive of the day is the one up the hill to the course itself. There weren't many cars in Lewes when this course opened, so take care and the time to enjoy the quaint properties on the way in. Lewes, you don't just have good beer - you have great golf. Thank you.

Played today (26/11/14) in the misty rain and couldn't get over how fast the greens were...lovely roll although sadly I was not rolling it in the right direction!
Course in fantastic condition and buggies were in use despite all the recent rain.
Fabulous course for playing this time of the year...might consider their Winter membership....very good value at £16 a week now till end of March 2015!!

Played Lewes again On Sunday 6th April and it is still in great condition. After reading the review below about not being able to find your way around the course it was nice to see these comments had been considered and there is nice new signage pointing you to the next tee. The course is a great challenge of golf and we really enjoyed it. Tea and the caterers fresh homemade cheese scones topped off the day

Wow

Superb course. For the weather we have had recently this is playing pure. Greens, fairways and teeboxes are immaculate. Be prepared for the wind, it wasnt a windy day but being so high up means there is always wind. Not a long course but one you need knowledge of, will definitely be back.
