Drainage here is good as we played during a week when we had a lot of wind and rain. But all tees but one & all greens were in play, and I can only echo what TQ says - down to earth staff, a good value bar with snooker & v helpful starter belies the top quality of the course * I thought having the first tee hidden by shrubs & a big tree was a nice friendly touch
Not much rough but many treelined holes with a good mix of doglegs, diagonal greens and varied length par 3s & 4s packed into what's a short layout which makes you think twice. The greens are well slick, pretty much as glassy as the USGA standard greens at wychwood park.
Basically get an open fairways voucher or ask to be shown round. Lots of top offers on their website to play for muni prices. Would defo join if I had the time to spare!

The club website was never the most enticing [in this modern age of fabulously flashy web design]. However, I am aware that a new site is in the process of being completed. As a roaming golfer, this would often be the first thing that gripped me to try and club and was probably the main reason why I overlooked LPGC for so long. The other issue was that I couldn’t view or book tee times online.
However, there is a simple [yet brilliant] explanation for this. Lee Park do not run a tee time booking system as you would expect to find at all other clubs. Yes, for groups and societies they will allocate the tee times, but for visiting guests it is a case of roll up and play as the tee frees up. You may expect that the 1st tee would be `bottle-necked` as a result, but with 4 of the 18 tees being situated around the clubhouse, it is never a problem to start on a different hole if its busy - in a kind of "shotgun" type format. It’s brilliantly simplistic, works wonderfully and feels very relaxed.
The club itself is extremely welcoming and everyone went out of their way to say hello and offer help and advice. The club has permanent "starters", which is another unusual yet pleasant surprise and they cannot do enough to make you feel at home.
The course is a superb parkland layout with a very tight from 9 with tree lined fairways and holes that require plenty of thought rather than just opting for "The Big Stick". The back 9 then changes tac a little bit with a lovely [new] 10th hole that would be at home on a high end golf course as you stand on a slightly raised tee and look between two large trees at an undulating green. A beautiful hole to start the back 9. It then opens out to some long and tricky holes. Initially, 3 or 4 of them can look a bit `up & down`, but when you actually play them you realise that the clever placement of hazards and the narrow fairways make them a real challenge.
The highlight though has to be the new 18th green, which is reached over a new water hazard that looks absolutely superb and wouldn’t look out of place at a club demanding £75+ per round.
However, the real draw of Lee Park has to be its carpet-like greens. Lots of people had told me over the years that the greens were as good as anything in the North West, and despite that advice I was a bit unconvinced. But having played them......wow, they really are unbeatable. Smooth, true and receptive and they are always in immaculate condition.
I’ve played, Royal Birkdale, Hillside, S&A, and Formby amongst others - and Lee Park is right up there with them. They really are that good!!!
All in all....the best compliment that I can give to the club is that despite having no intention whatsoever.....I ended up joining on a full 7 day membership after this 1 visit.
The manager, Steve Settle, was probably as big a draw as the greens and course and his warmth, professionalism and friendliness just won me over instantly. All the staff at the club are the equally as friendly and nothing is ever too much.
If you haven’t visited Lee Park, you need to give it a go. You will not regret it.
The food and bar area is lovely, and I enjoyed a superb large lunch of sandwiches, salad and chips for less than £5, and sat back and watched the live golf on the TV in the clubhouse. The place just has a lovely warm, friendly, family feel to it.

Conditions are now excellent -all greens in play and course dried out - and I would advise a visit - rated as tournament quality greens by our independent R & A agronomist in 2012 - please visit the friendliest course on Merseyside - you will not be disappointed.
