Despite being in the middle of a built-up area it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere for all but a couple of holes, with the only distraction being the occasional plane from Bournemouth airport overhead.
Tree-lined fairways favour straightness rather than length, although underneath pine straw is more common than thick rough, meaning most wayward balls can be found (although there a some notable exceptions!). Although not the longest course, it's exposed position can lead to high winds, which today made some of the 350 yard plus par 4s hard work to reach even with driver - long iron. The holes vary from the straight and flat to a variety of dog-legs and gradients all over the place. Both par 5s are very reachable in two if you're not into wind, and in the drier months a couple of par 4s are driveable for the longer hitter. The only disappointment was the three par 3s - all straightforward (although the 18th has a difficult green, especially if the pin is on the front), and one of which is one of those pointless little 100-odd yard holes that courses seem to stick in when they've run out of space. My only other very slight criticism would be that the greens are pretty much flat in most cases.
Despite the very wet weather here over the last few weeks the course was in excellent condition, the ground still firm underfoot and greens still running well, although as to be expected at this time of year the odd bobble was starting to creep in. The fairways were a little long, although I suspect that was intentional on the part of the greenstaff given the recent weather. The bunkers, in contrast to a lot of local courses over the last few weeks, were in great nick with plenty of fluffy sand, a pleasure to play out of (and I did find a few!).
Green fees are fair for the standard of the course, as are the membership rates. Tee times are restricted for visitors, especially at weekends.
Overall, well worth a visit, and certainly a club to consider if you're looking for membership locally.

Excellent course. Well worth the visit.
Need to play cleverly. If you are not accurate with your driver, settle for a 5 wood or a rescue.Reviewer Rating

Great views & interesting holes
Enjoyed a first-time twilight visit on Saturday evening for ?30 which is good value I think. Great weather helped but the views were really good and I expect it could be pretty windy as the course is quite high up and some holes are fairly exposed. The course generally presented nicely with heather, majestic pines and some gorse too, and though the fairways were pretty rugged most of the time it didn't affect the experience. Greens were good without being anything special but lots of subtle slopes makes for some challenging reads. Varied layout with some interesting holes. We had the place to ourselves but otherwise seemed friendly towards visitors. I don't live locally and there are so many other good courses to try in the area, but I would return.Reviewer Rating

Challenging heathland course
This is a tough course, due to narrow fairways, lined with pine trees, and heather on many of the slopes. Lots of fun to play, however, as very varied and a good combination of par 3s,4s and 5s. The 18th is a tricky Par 3, hitting over a road, with the green surrounded by bunkers so you can't relax until you're in the clubhouse!Reviewer Rating

Played just after all the bad weather, the course was in excellent condition in the circumstances, the course always offers the mid handicap players a real challenge, the three of us thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

Only wonder is a few of the par 3s are very short and on a still day, quite benign.
Friendly welcome in the pro shop and good value twilight rate. Thank you.
