What the club says: The Donald Steel designed 6904 yard par 71 championship course is set in 160 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside rolling gently down to the River Stour. To add more interest, water comes into play on 14 holes, with numerous little streams, crossed by picturesque Purbeck stone bridges, linking nine lakes around the course.

Never again
Played the course on Friday 29th September 2023. The clubhouse and reception by staff was good on arrival and the weather was perfect. Ryder Cup to look forwards to afterwards as well. The green fee of £300.00 for a fourball and two buggies seemed high but I’d played the course a few years ago and so I wasn’t too put off by this. Sadly, the course was in very poor condition - tees were bare, fairways and greens not cut and pitch marks all over the greens, as well as wormcasts but it’s that time of year I guess. The pace of play was also very poor - set for over 5 hours before we decided to call it quits after 12 holes. Given this experience and photos I’d taken of the course, I thought, at a minimum, there would be a partial refund (of any amount) but it was met with a “you’re not gonna get Augusta for £60” and no refund despite raising this with management. Shame, was decent in the past - we played Moor Valley the next day and had a far better experience for half the price. I’m a 3 handicapper and have played several top courses in the area so I have a good idea of the price points for the different courses in Dorset. Never again, although I gather that might not be an option anyway come March next year.Reviewer Rating

An interesting course with water in play for the majority of the holes. Excellent greens. Fringes and 2nd cut left a bit long but generally really well kept. Practice facilities are pretty poor. Driving range quite expensive and badly worn balls and poor options of tees. Not particularly welcoming pro shop but the hotel staff were very friendly.

Sweeping fairways up and down
Very good course with beautiful up and down valleys, near the River Stour. Greens good, especially considering the amount of rain recently. In the valleys near the Stour there was significant standing water and mini extra tributaries, but I would say this did not detract from the course or enjoyment of the round.Reviewer Rating

Tough long course
Very enjoyable course that will demand that you use a driver as much as you can. Super condition of both fairways and greens. Bunkers well tended.Lovely views throughout and also lots of wildlife to keep your attention.

Best left till Summer
I don’t think I’ve ever had to clean a ball so often. Very muddySaving grace, the greens were in good order.

Very Pleasant
In good condition for a November after some rotten weather obviously a bit damp in places but greens were really good. Played after twelve o’clock at a good rate which added to the enjoyment(Round played: Nov 2021 - Score: 87 Handicap: 15.4)
