Played here in May it was so good we joined its one of the best courses in staffordshire . We have found the people to be extremely friendly this year's officials were so welcoming and next year's are just as nice.

They do a Friday couples nine hole competition and a meal which is great and a good way to meet the members . They also run ladies, gents, and mixed competition's all year round and as a couple of newbies could be daunting but the members have been so good it's been easy to join in.

The grounds staff are some of the nicest we have come across and very polite as is the manager and all the staff that work there

I would recommend you give it a go for a day or like us a lifetime ????

I play this course in the open every year, since we discovered it around 15 years ago! Brilliant fantastic tough and a pleasure to play! We play a lot of opens, and pick and choose carefully where we play. Ingest re is always top of the list.

An excellent park land course in excellent condition. Many holes which require thought off the tee.

I was a member here for 14 years before moving to North Wales.

The basis of the landscape design is down to Capability Brown. The land that the golf course is set on was part of the estate that belonged originally to the Earls of Shrewsbury who were resident in the grand old Jacobean mansion that can be seen from the 3rd tee.

The course was opened for play in 1977. The members set to and constructed the course themselves with input from Hawtree & Sons. The construction was a swift one, the members having been "evicted" from their 9 hole course, (Kingston Hill), in Stafford. The move was obviously found to be for the better for 30 years later, the course has become a gem.

The new trees have caught up with the old and the course now has the look of a mature 70 to 100 year old course. There are trees on the course that date back over 800 years so they had some catching up to do.

Danny Scullion is the professional nd has been with Kingston Hill and Ingestre pretty well all of his career apart from spells on the South African Tour.

The members are very proud of their course. The head greenkeeper, Steve Blakeman, although not a golfer as such, presents a course that is pleasing to the eye and takes note of the better golfers in the club as to how to set the course up and how the greens are playing.

The course it self is built on a clay subsoil. As anyone knows this is not an ideal situation. In the Summer the fairways and green surrounds can become baked hard and brown to the point of cracking in really prolonged hot dry weather. In the winter it is the opposite, the course is closed regularly in prolonged wet periods with water logging and temporary greens are an unwelcome necessity for the best part of 4 months.

The best time of year to play Ingestre is around June/July, but you will only get on during the week, weekends are fully subscribed with members playing in competitions.

There is a strong social section to the club much to the chagrain of the competitive side with the Husbands and Wives playing in social 9 hole and 18 hole events that seem to clog up the course to the detriment of the "serious golfers" and the point where the better golfers seek their pleasure elsewhere. Mixed golf seems to be the favoured format.

The clubhouse has recently been extended to cater for larger parties and, yes you guessed it, bigger and bigger social events. The lounge now feels cavernous and to my mind has lost the personal feel and atmosphere. I don't know but it just doesn't feel as though it has been completed. There is nowhere to relax after your round, there are no easy chairs with low tables. It just feels like a big cafe or restaurant.

That said, the balcony is a great place to unwind and discuss the days play, especially in the summer, but you must keep your voices down because the 18th green is only short distance away and the chance of distracting the players putting out is particularly high.

Well worth a visit, I would recommend it!
