What the club says: Ingestre Park lies in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, once home to the Earl of Shrewsbury. A beautifully matured parkland golf course set in secluded and peaceful surroundings. A private members club, however, visitors and societies are welcome throughout the year. We have superb practice facilities which include an extensive Practice Area over 250 yds long, first-class chipping and bunker practice areas and two large putting greens. All 18-holes are surrounded by woodland and each one offers a test to golfers of all levels – a wonderful course due to its sheer quality and splendour.

Mr Berry
The old part of the course looks superb. the new part of the course is set up like a links and works well. The course could do with some pictures of the hole on the tees for new players as you can't always see where to aim. The bunkers were the best I've played out of for a long time loads of sand.Reviewer Rating

Lovely Course spoilt by HS2 work.
Course was in excellent condition, everyone was friendly at the course. The only letdown was the work being carried out for HS2, which is hardly the club's fault!(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 88 Handicap: 18.3)

Best greens I've putting on this year...
Always play in the Men's Pairs event here every August, & never leave disappointed. Course is in fantastic condition at the minute & will provide a stern test for any golfer regardless of ability. All staff here from the Pro to the bar personnel are extremely friendly & helpful which is not always the case at golf clubs these days. If I lived slightly closer to this wonderful venue I wouldn't hesitate to become a member, but sadly it's just too much of a commute. Highly recommend a visit if you've not already had the pleasure.Reviewer Rating

Enjoy it while you can.
One of the nicest courses I have played on. Parkland designed by Capability Brown. Fairways and greens in excellent condition. Challenging, but not over-daunting for a visitor. Sadly, the course is on the route of HS2 and has a death sentence hanging over it. Play it in the next two or three years - you won't regret it!Reviewer Rating

Lovely golf course, many mature trees showing no mercy if you drive into them.
Very helpful staff, nice balcony in the 19th to watch incoming golfers. Great setting for a golf course.

They do a Friday couples nine hole competition and a meal which is great and a good way to meet the members . They also run ladies, gents, and mixed competition's all year round and as a couple of newbies could be daunting but the members have been so good it's been easy to join in.
The grounds staff are some of the nicest we have come across and very polite as is the manager and all the staff that work there
I would recommend you give it a go for a day or like us a lifetime ????

The basis of the landscape design is down to Capability Brown. The land that the golf course is set on was part of the estate that belonged originally to the Earls of Shrewsbury who were resident in the grand old Jacobean mansion that can be seen from the 3rd tee.
The course was opened for play in 1977. The members set to and constructed the course themselves with input from Hawtree & Sons. The construction was a swift one, the members having been "evicted" from their 9 hole course, (Kingston Hill), in Stafford. The move was obviously found to be for the better for 30 years later, the course has become a gem.
The new trees have caught up with the old and the course now has the look of a mature 70 to 100 year old course. There are trees on the course that date back over 800 years so they had some catching up to do.
Danny Scullion is the professional nd has been with Kingston Hill and Ingestre pretty well all of his career apart from spells on the South African Tour.
The members are very proud of their course. The head greenkeeper, Steve Blakeman, although not a golfer as such, presents a course that is pleasing to the eye and takes note of the better golfers in the club as to how to set the course up and how the greens are playing.
The course it self is built on a clay subsoil. As anyone knows this is not an ideal situation. In the Summer the fairways and green surrounds can become baked hard and brown to the point of cracking in really prolonged hot dry weather. In the winter it is the opposite, the course is closed regularly in prolonged wet periods with water logging and temporary greens are an unwelcome necessity for the best part of 4 months.
The best time of year to play Ingestre is around June/July, but you will only get on during the week, weekends are fully subscribed with members playing in competitions.
There is a strong social section to the club much to the chagrain of the competitive side with the Husbands and Wives playing in social 9 hole and 18 hole events that seem to clog up the course to the detriment of the "serious golfers" and the point where the better golfers seek their pleasure elsewhere. Mixed golf seems to be the favoured format.
The clubhouse has recently been extended to cater for larger parties and, yes you guessed it, bigger and bigger social events. The lounge now feels cavernous and to my mind has lost the personal feel and atmosphere. I don't know but it just doesn't feel as though it has been completed. There is nowhere to relax after your round, there are no easy chairs with low tables. It just feels like a big cafe or restaurant.
That said, the balcony is a great place to unwind and discuss the days play, especially in the summer, but you must keep your voices down because the 18th green is only short distance away and the chance of distracting the players putting out is particularly high.
Well worth a visit, I would recommend it!
