The Best
Played the course many times, always in fabulous conditions, the layout is exceptional with no weaker holes on the entire course. The back 9 is unbelievable.
The club oooozes quality and class, friendly welcome, immaculate facilities what a place.
Having played over 650 courses now worldwide this is at the top of the list, without doubt for me above any other course ion the area

One of the best links courses in the country
Much better than its illustrious neighbour (royal Birkdale) in my view, more visually beautiful and seriously challenging. Very friendly people at all turns. definitely the best course on the English golf coast in my view and one of the best in the country

Love this course -a touch of class
Read so many of the reviews Birkdale v Hillside and all 3 of us agreed.....Hillside pips its neighbour, and yo can see wh DP World is bringing the European tour here. It is more attractive, more trees to frame the holes (just love that on 7,8,10,11) -it is such a feature of the area (like at Formby too). The way the flower beds around the opening hole, and gorse bushes (esp on 15th) are used has you reaching for your camera.
We squeezed in on the last day of the winter rate at £130....well worth it having played Birkdale the day before for £185.
The wind was up on this our 2nd day which made a tighter course than Birkdale all the more challenging. None of us are bad players but we all had some big misses off the tee with balls lost on the wind.
There are so many stand out holes at Hillside. I judge a course by the number of unique holes and Hillside has so many and so varied too. Everyone raves about the back 9 and I agree there are no weak/ordinary holes but even the front nine is right up there. I think 8 is my favourite hole on the course.
I played in January off temp tees, but we decided to take on the blue this time. I'd recommend it as some of the the tee shots are just stunning being that little bit further back.
Again the practice area is well worth a use for 30 mins before your round with free balls.
We used the catering and recommend the sausages....and full breakfast (£10) so good value for a beautiful club house. It can't be bad as Alan Hansen was sat at the table beside us tucking into a club sandwich before his round. Alan did the voice over for the course video. And the fact he is a regular says it all..........and testament to the friendliness he even said 'hello' to our party as we got our gear ready in the car park recognising that we were visitors!
A touch of class - like the golf club. We're defo coming back!!
Finally, on the Hillside v Birkdale. Hillside course wins for us but the hospitality/friendliness of Birkdale wins. The Hillside pros are very nice guys (9 out of 10), but the Birkdale welcome is exceptional and they even get one of the marshals to guide us to the practice facility (11/10!)

Hillside, the sister course of Royal Birkdale, host of the Open in the summer of 2008. Also sister course to S&A (Southport and Ainsadale), also a great course to play. Obviously being a member of such a great course, I would put my course in front of anybodys. But to be perfectly honest, if Hillside had the spacious grounds of Royal Birkdale, The OPen would be played at Hillside.
The Course meaders through the dunes of Southports fantastic coastline whilst the trees are blown from side to side by the wind. The wind makes the course challenging and I would advise anyone playing there who hasn't played a links course to think and play wiseley as the fairways are tight and the rough is extremely thick.
The back 9 of Hillside is said to be one of the best 9's in the whole world, and i wouls vertainly agree.
If you ever do have the chance to play such a wonderful course; the members, the course and I would welcome you to one of Englands finest courses
Thankyou

Stunning
Of all the top quality courses in and around Southport, Hillside is top of the tree for me.
From the welcoming members, the staff and the golf course it’s a joy to play and return time and time again.

The course was in excellent condition, with lush greens, well maintained tees, and pristine fairways. The layout is challenging, but rewarding. The facilities are excellent, and the course is truly a pleasure to the eye. It's the most prestigious course I've ever played and I would highly recommend it.

As Good As It Gets
Visited here a few years ago for the British Masters and fell in love with it straight away.
An absolutely stunning layout from start to finish and they've even made a few improvements since then.
Every shot has you thinking. Bunkers well positioned and of the highest quality you're likely to see, thankfully I only visited one. Greens were amazing and very very tricky. The views when playing the course are at times simply breathtaking??I could have taken so many pictures?.
Great facilities including a grass range. Food was gorgeous and the drinks were very well priced.
It's one ticked off on my bucket list of courses but also one I will endeavour to play again.
Definitely worth the visit for any golfer. Easy to get to by road or rail too.

Love the place.
I’ve played all the open courses along the north west and hillside tops the lot, the back 9 is glorious.
