Surprisingly Dry
For the time of year the fairways are surprisingly dry and unyielding to the club with many “bounces” meaning the leading edge was contacting the ball because their was no divots. Bunkers also very compacted and hard(Round played: Apr 2019 - Score: 104 Handicap: 25.8)

Gone off the boil a bit
Used to be a great, easy to use club with 3 9 hole courses. During 2018 one course was closed with the aim of selling the land for housing with the result that the remaining courses are very busy and it isn't often not possible to turn up and play (as advertised) before 11:00. Course conditions not as good as they were.Reviewer Rating

Not so good
The Herts course is now closed (apparently permanently) making the course overall more crowded. The course is in reasonable condition, but the greens have been over-watered in places and are of unpredictable pace. One very inconsiderate green-keeper mowing the fairways, parking in the way of play - not helpful. Overall the experience is not as good as it used to be.(Round played: Aug 2018 - Score: 105 Handicap: 29.8)

Greens disappointing
My friend and I played at Heydon in January 2018 for the first time in two years. As always. the course was generally in good condition despite the recent wet weather. What was disappointing was the condition of the greens. We have played here before in wet conditions but the greens have been much better than they were this time. We have long given up on the food here and go elsewhere. The green value is very good value and would certainly play here agin when other courses are waterlogged / unplayable.(Round played: Jan 2018 - Score: 116 Handicap: 28)

In need of some TLC
This could be a very nice course if it was given some much needed TLC. Some of the greens resembled cricket pitches in places, most bunkers barely had any sand in them. Overall course layout is good with some challenging holesReviewer Rating

Enjoyable but....
Could be excellent but lacking a bit of TLC. Decent design with some challenging holes bit greens are poor. Good twilight value at £15 but would be reluctant to pay over £20.Reviewer Rating

Very good wet weather course
My friend like to continue playing over the winter period. When it is wet, there are very few courses that cope with weather and none are better then Heydon Grange. Because it sits on chalk, the drainage is very good and it is rarely affected by rain - only in exceptional circumstances. We have played over the last three weeks and, as usual, the course coped well with the wet conditions. The fairways were in good condition and the greens were good and true. The bunkers, however, were less impressive and were in serious need of TLC. We will continue to play here whenever the weather is less than ideal.Reviewer Rating

Good for practice
Played on April 2023. The weather was cloudy most of the day, the course was wet from overnight rain.First, the course is certainly on the easier side of those that I've played. The fairways are quite wide which may help those who have a tendency to push/pull their tee shots. The greens aren't too undulated and aren't too difficult to read.
However, the overall condition of the course leaves a lot to be desired. Greens and fairways were fairly inconsistent between holes. A lot of the surfaces, particularly greens, and surrounding fringes/fairway leave a lot to be desired which made putting/chipping trickier.
There's a reasonable pitching practice area, a small putting green (which again needs some TLC), and a driving range. Unfortunately, the driving range wasn't open when I arrived quite early. Bunkers would benefit from new sand/regular raking to prevent weed growth, and most of the water hazards require topping up.
The pro shop is small but has some good products. The clubhouse has a lovely traditional interior.
IMO, the condition of the course should be indicative of the price and I wouldn't really want to pay more than £15-20 to play here again, in which case I'd suggest playing the twilight rate.

Very good wet weather course
My friend and I have played at Heydon Grange for a numbers of years and it is our 'go to' course when the weather is wet, particularly in winter. Because it is situated on chalk the ground drains very well and, when we played in January 2023, we found it to open when many other courses were closed. Despite the recent very wet weather, the course was reasonably dry and we were able to have a good round. This is the course's biggest selling point. The clubhouse is fairly large but lacking in atmosphere and the food is nothing to write home about. We thought the welcome isn't a good as with other clubs that we play at.
We will continue to play at Heydon Grange whenever ground conditions at other courses are bad but it is not our first choice to play at.
